how do I make a cool messy bun? (for my hair?)?

everytime i try to make a messy bun it looks bad. anyone have some tips? i want it to look "cute messy" not "hairsprayed messy"
you know?
just please help!

1. Create a ponytail (high or low, depending on if you're wearing something that looks better with either style), but DON'T pull the hair all the way through on the last elastic wrap. Instead, you should have something that looks like a loop.
2. Take the ends of the loop, pull them up toward the top or your head. Take another elastic and wrap it around this modified-bun concoction.
3. Fasten with bobby pins, creating a more symmetrical look or just to hold it in.
4. You could also skip the second elastic and just fasten with bobby pins (a bit more difficult).

Try sleeping on a bun, then try and re-do the style the next day.
Also, putting it up while it's wet can give you the messed-up look, cause you can't really brush it out that thoroughly.

well it depends. do you have long hair? short hair? medium.

i have fairly long hair and what i do is get a hair tie, flip my head upside down, pull all my hair together as if I'm going to do a pony tail, put my hair through the hair tie once then go to put it through a second time but don't go all the way through then the hair should kinda be folded in half, then just put the tie around it once more.

create your bun and carefully pick out strands of your hair. curl the strands let them hang off your face. but it kinda depends on if you have thick or thin hair. if you have thick hair it would look good. if you have thin hair it would look a little "funny". try it...:)

okay im a pro at this.
- make a high pony
- tie it
- put it into two sections
- twist them each
- wrap them around the core
-put tiny strands out of the spirals to make it even more messy

Twirl your hair and then fold it into a bun! Use oil sheen instead of hair spray.

add a little bit of mouse to your hair and let it dry, once it has dried pull it up and twirled it secured it with some bobby pins and you are good to go!! hope it works
