I am a 14 year-old teen. This is what my teacher thought in school. But i hope it can help you to understand more about cancer terms. There two types of cancer. They are benign and malignant tumour. Benign tumour are non-cancerous cells that can often be removed and, in most cases, they do not come back or spread to other parts of the body. Most importantly, benign tumours are rarely a threat to life. Malignant tumour are cancerous cells that divide without control or order. Cancer cells invade and destroy the tissue around them. Cancer cells can also break away from a malignant tumour and enter the bloodstream or lymphatic system. You can cure cancer easily in the early stage. Consult a doctor as soon as possible.

A lump in your breast does not necessarily mean you have cancer. Start with your family, make sure to ask any close female relatives if they have breast cancer, this would include mothers, sister, aunts, cousins, grand mothers as breast cancer can run in families.

Secondly, see your doctor, you may need a mammogram and a breast ultrasound for further evaluation. If they see something that is concerning, you will be referred to a breast surgeon for a biopsy or futher managment.

It could just be fibrocystic breast tissue which is benign. Does it change during the month with your cycle? If it does, it probably is not cancer but just asking the question you asked alone, no one answer is going to give you the information you seek.

Breast cancer is cureable if you find it EARLY!!! Please start by seeing your doctor. Good for you for checking your breast and noticing something isn't right.

Is the skin puckered? Does it look like an orange peel? If you answered yes, that is more likely to be cancerous but nothing is a guarantee and not all breast cancer necessarily has those signs.

There really isn't any way to know for certain by just feeling it.

I know that it's the weekend, the doctor's office isn't open, and you're probably just looking for some reassurance... so I'll see what I can do.

Let's start with your age. If you're young... teens or twenties, it's VERY unlikely. Still possible, but unlikely.

Secondly, I believe that I've heard the statistic that 80% of breast lumps turn out to be noncancerous on further investigation. It could be anything from a fibroid cyst to a benign (noncancerous) tumor.

It could also be related to your menstrual cycle. If you're on your period, or getting ready to start soon, it could be hormonal. Many people experience lumpier breasts around the time of their period, which go back down after their body returns to normal.

Like I said, though, there's absolutely no way to know for certain just by feeling it. If you go to the doctor, they'll probably order a mammogram, or attempt to aspirate (drain) the lump. If they can drain it, it's likely just a cyst.

Anyway, I know you'll hear this a million times, but do try not to worry until you know for sure. Like I said, 80% of lumps aren't even cancerous.

Take care. :)

cancer of any kind can only be diagnosed by a biopsy of the tumor. Contact your ob/gyn and tell them that you've found the lump and see if you can make an appt. You'll probably have a physical exam and maybe a mammogram. from there they may do a biopsy, where they stick you with a long needle and "aspirate" some of the tissue, which will then be tested to see if it is malignant(cancerous) or benign(just fatty tissue.) but call your dr monday cause early dection is important in all cancers.

Although it might be helpful to talk to other cancer survivors, obviously the best person to talk to is your doctor. Sometimes, lumps exist that may not necessarily be tumorous or they may be tumors but benign. Don't jump to any conclusions.

I would suggest seeing a health care professional.
