Check your local laws. Many cities have banned them, or it is on the books for the law to be passed.
They are no worse than any other dog. But, the point is, they are illegal to own in many, many areas.

Pit bull terriers can be great pets i personally have a 4 year old black and white Pit and also have 4 children it has never bitten anyone and if anyone tried to hurt the kids it would tear them to shreds . the thing is it is all about the proper upbringing with dogs and people. a bad owner will produce a bad dog and vice versa . check out some literature before making any decisions though.

I think any dog can be raised to be mean... and some breeds tend to be meaner and more irritated. Some breeders in-breed to enhance quailites and characteristics of a breed or have been known to.. and yes that does work but it multiplies both good and bad characteristics.. and with dogs that tend to be protectors or aggressive in any way shape or form.. it can make them tweaky and unpredictable and some dogs not just pits have been known to bite for no reason out of the blue because of this and when researched it is usually a pure bred dog. IF you get any pet be sure to look VERY closely at the papers on the animal and trace the lines back to make SURE the dog has no inbreeding in its line.

Pit Bulls can be GREAT pets!!! It all depends on their training. Yes, the breed is more agressive than most dogs, but, as long as you don't train it to be aggresive, and start training as soon as you get it, it should be fine! But, If you get a puppy, then make sure that you don't let it start biting... as soon as it bites, even if it's playing, then yell, and turn away, ignore it, or put it in a Crate or kennel, (Which ever you keep it in.) until it calms down. NEVER let it bite and don't do anything about it! That will only confuse it! NEVER hit it when you are training it! That can (And most likely WILL.) make it aggresive. Stick to training, and you should have a great dog! Good luck!

My suggestion is NEVER get a pitbull. They are beautiful dogs, but unfortunatley very unstable. That type of breed has a wire loose in their brain, whether it is a chemical imbalance I am not sure.
NEVER NEVER let a pitbull around kids. There is a myth that if you treat pitbulls correctly that they are harmless. This is not true at all. Pitbulls are a breed of fighting dogs and they can snap at any moment no matter how well you treat them. Sometimes children can trip over them or do something to startle them which in the end will have devastating consequences if the dog reacts badly. This however, is not the dog's fault entirely, it is just the nature of the breed.
I suggest you find an alternative breed of dog, one that does not have such a bad reputation, or the likely hood of turning on small kids or even adults. Try a Labrador or a German Shepard, they are great intellegent dogs which are very easy to train.

I believe that there are no bad dogs just bad owners. Any dog can be a mean dog. My friend has a black pit/lab mix. She's 80 lbs of solid muscle and she's the sweetest baby ever! She looks like a pit but she's all lab. Maybe look into the shelters for a mix. They make great pets. If you show them love, they'll love you back.

I know pit bulls have bad reputations, but the pit bulls you hear about in the news are pit bulls that are trained to fight and attack. Raise it up as a puppy and he'll be fine. To my understanding they make good pets.

yes pit bulls are very good pets...as long as you raise them right and get them from a good breeder or good owner they are fine. My dad had two when i was a baby and they never did anything wrong. Pit bulls are trained to be mean, they aren't mean until you make them that way. Pit bulls are good dogs.

Get one that is just turning 6wks old, Most people make the mistake of geting one 6 months old the dog dont know you first of all.
They are not as the news articles say.I have owned pits for years and I know only 4 a fact pit bulls are sweet animals teritorial but very loving.
the only ones that are bad is the ones *** holes made that way by teasing them and making them fight as puppies .they are very loyal and while guard you with their life this I knowfrom no dam book,Adog only learns what he is taught to do fight him=bad love him= Best dam friend you will ever have no person is loyal next to a dog of any kind.

If you are responsible pet owners - they can be wonderful pets. Just know that they definitely need proper training with people AND with other dogs (especially as puppies). They were originally bred for fighting and even though your dog may never have fought - it may be a strong trait in your dog because he/she is a pitbull.
I have a pitbull mix and I love her very much. However, when she's gone - I would never get another dog that has pitbull in it. I never had any problems with her and other people but she fought several times with a dog that we used to live with. It's horrible having to break up a dog fight! If you don't own your own home - it makes it much harder to rent from anyone having a dog with any pit in it.

They are wonderful dogs. We have raised several Pits with our son and all of them loved him and let him ride them like a horse. If Pits are raised to love and not fight, they are one of the best breeds ever in my opinion. Get the family a Pit the are very loyal dogs.
