God had told Abraham(who was just as dumb as me or any other Dad)that in Isaac he would make a great nation. Now Abraham believed God(and it was counted to him as righteousness)and knew that God would keep His promise. He didn't know how God would do it,he just knew He would. That's why at the bottom of Mt. Moriah(Calvary in the New Testament)Abraham told his servants "The lad and I are going up to worship and WE will return".
When Isaac asked "Where is the sacrifice?" Abraham said "Don't worry ,God will provide HIMSELF(Jesus) a sacrificial lamb."Then the Angel of the Lord(the Angel of the Lord is always the pre-incarnate Jesus)stopped him and there was a ram there for them to kill.
See, it was an illustration of what God was going to do on that exact spot 2000 years later ,sacrifice His Son,His only Son.

The biggest issue is that he was an unquestioning SON of god and while Abraham is celebrated for that lets not forget that Issac was a strapping young teenager and more than able to stop his dad from following through with gods order and for his willingness deserves great credit as well . you should also remember that an angel of god stopped this human sacrifice and allowed abraham to father a nation . the lesson being total dedication to god will be rewarded .

He didn't do it..I feel the reason God had asked Him to do this was,,He wanted to show Him what pain He was going to go through when Jesus His son was going to offered up for all sins..It also was a test of Faith, the Lord gave Abraham this son,Abraham was going to be a Father of many nations..He had to be tested to see if His faith would stand.Although God knew that He could trust Abraham,,but Abraham didn't know His faith He had in the Lord..Thank goodness God would never ask that of anyone now, because Jesus was the sacrifice made for all men..

We really don't know what kind of father he was. I suppose that he did father Ishmael. The mother was Hagar. Now, if this is true he caused us some real problems. Arabs!! I wonder what linage Hagar came from. At any rate , God told Hagar that her offspring would be the father of many nations. He also told her that they would behave as wild donkeys. That part is accurate.
Oh, it just came to me. Hagar was a domesticated baboon. I sincerely hope in the great by and by Abraham gets his butt kicked to the point it shoulder high.

If you read the story not as literal fact but rather as a metaphor, it lessens in its scariness and becomes powerful. God asks us to put his will before all others. The story reminds us that a God-centered life is the only one that will set us free.

Because of this and other Abraham stories, Jews, Christians, and Muslims find ways to more fully submit to God will.

peace
