Don't follow the crowd. Be an individual. Learn one of the two Native American languages of South America that are spoken by millions of people and are official national languages. Guarani is the national language of Paraguay and Quechua is the national language of Peru. Learn one of these two languages. You won't just be another face in the crowd of every Tom, Dick, and Harry in Spanish class.

Well, your best bet would be Spanish. Every South American country speaks Spanish, except for Brazil. I would recommend Spanish, as you are not only confined to the South American continent, but rather opened to many new countries and people throughout the world. Spanish is one of the top languages in the world, very close on the list with English.

Spanish, at least for me, is quite simple. The rules are pretty basic and the pronounciation is always known simply by just looking at the word. You also don't have to worry about too many different cases (nominative, accusative, dative, etc) compared to other languages such as German or Latin. Overall, like I said, Spanish is probably your best option and will get you the farthest.

Buena Suerte!

The languages spoken in South America vary by country. Most countries speak Spanish. Brazilians speak Portugese. What is spoken where has a lot to do with which European country colonized. Your best bet is Spanish. If you want something cool and different, go with Portugese.
