C&H boxes of powdered sugar have a GREAT recipe for frosting on the back of them! It hardens when dry and is yummy! It uses the entire pound box, 1 stick of softened margarine, a teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 1/4 cup cream or milk ( I think). You use a mixer till smoothe. I am not entirely sure about the milk amount, but it is on the back of all the boxes.

This is really cool, and it's easy to do, especially if you have kids. Get an egg, some paint brushes (cheap ones are fine) and some food dye. Beat the egg well until it's totally mixed up, and divide it into a few cups (you can use muffin tins). Then, use a few drops of dye in the egg mixture. Then you can 'paint' onto the sugar cookies. Make sure to do this BEFORE you bake them. The heat makes the egg and dye bake onto the cookies.

You can also go to a craft store that sells wilton cake decorating supplies and find edible markers for writing on icing (you need to have a recipe for smooth and hard icing for this, but the results are really cool. You can really get some good details with the markers. Sometimes you can find them in supermarkets, in the cake and baking aisle.

Here is a good website for recipes, but you have to register, I think. Happy Baking!

Like Sugar PIe said, use meringue powder to harden icing. I've been using it for the last couple of weeks and it works. Other icings might harden over time but using meringue powder works. Icing is completely dry in an hour (depending upon how much you use.)

WILTON ROYAL ICING

This smooth, hard-drying icing is perfect for making decorations that last. It is also useful as a "cement" to fasten decorations together. Royal icing is edible, but not recommended for icing cakes.

• 3 Tablespoons Wilton Meringue Powder
• 1 lb. (4 cups) confectioners' sugar (about 1lb.)
• 6 Tablespoons warm water*

Beat all ingredients until icing forms peaks (7-10 minutes at low speed with a heavy-duty mixer, 10-12 minutes at high speed with a hand-held mixer). Recipe makes 3 cups.

NOTE: Keep all utensils completely grease-free for proper icing consistency.

* For stiffer icing, use 1 tablespoon less water.

**When using large countertop mixer or for stiffer icing, use 1 tablespoon less water.

3 cups powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon milk or cream stir adding cream drop by drop until you get a thick consistency then spread on the cookies and let dry.

Can also use orange or lemon juice (fresh) instead of the cream.

Put a few grains of salt to bring out the flavor

Hi!

I hate to be so impersonal as to give you a website but it's late .... so:

1. Williams Sonoma .... click on their recipes and you will find pictures and good recipes..

2. Martha Stewart .... also has recipes and photos ... as a matter of fact, I think she has a video you can watch .

Both of these sources are so "famous" that you can just type in the names and the internet will have the connection... oh, wait, there's that little window where I can look and it will hold this message in place ..... the Willliams Sonoma is
www.williams-sonoma.com and the one for Martha Stewart is www.marthastewart.com ...

Cheers!
