That's easy. China was really angry that the Roman government crucified Jesus Christ, so sent several convoys to Rome. They brought many gifts as a gesture of kindness, and invited several Roman diplomats to Beijin (then known as Peking). Instead of sending them back home, they were sent out, 3 to each province, to work a variety of "slave" jobs for the regional ministers. Many faced discrimination mainly due to their foreign looks. Some had children with Chinese wives, hence the famed blue-eyed Asians of Shanghai whose descendants can still be seen shuffling through the big city with everyone else.
