you are gonna get all grades of different answers. here is the correct answer. pay attention to the color of your urine. if your urine is dark yellow you are starting to dehydrate. your urine should be very faintly yellow to almost clear. in the summer, i have to drink about three gallons of water a day to keep hydrated. in the winter on a Sunday (not working) i only need about 2 quarts.
of course one should avoid soda pop and coffee during hot weather because they will remove more water from your body than they add too it.
hope this helps,

This is actually not a cut and dry question, and I'll try not to cut and paste in my answer. How much water you need to avoid dehydration depends upon a number of things and you usually won't know if you're dehydrated until it's too late.
You need to take into consideration how much excercise you're doing, what the weather is like, and how your health is, according to the mayo clinic.
Eight cups will "replace" the water you typically lose through just being alive but men might want to consider upping it to 13 cups and women to nine.*
Data from the website listed below indicates, "it is generally the case that if you drink enough fluid so that you rarely feel thirsty and produce between one and two liters of colorless or slightly yellow urine a day, your fluid intake is probably adequate."

It all depends on the person's needs. Doctors suggest 8 glasses of water per day, but that really is just the average. Some people need less, some people need more. When you feel thirsty, you are already past the point of being dehydrated, so as long as you are not ever thirsty, you will be fine. Hope I helped!

You need at least 8 10oz glasses of water a day to stay properly hydrated. This does not mean tap water, use spring water from a reputable company. Tap water in most of the U.S. is not fit to drink-only New York city water is good enough to drink from the tap. Also this does not include sodas, beer, coffee or most other drinks. If you juice fruits and vegetables that counts as a glass. Your cells need to be cleansed constantly in order for your body to stay healthy. Avoid liquor and caffeine, as these cause your body to discard water, thus dehydrating the body....KECK
