2) Snakes eat rodents, rodents harm humans
3) we fear what we can't understand. snakes are spooky - no legs, forked tongue.
4) silent animals have always been maligned - bats, spiders, snakes, cats.

Some Christians feel that way about dogs & cats & rats & mice. I think it has something to do with childhood trauma & how they were taught by their elders. It's not right OR wrong. His house, his rules & you'll probably NEVER be able to change his mind about this without causing more pain for yourself while you still live in his house! I had a StepFather like him! Since I was born in the year of the snake (1953), I've been told that I would be possessed by demons for the rest of my life. If I had been weak enough to believe these people, I probably would have grown up to be a mass murderer! I learned that it takes ALL kinds & many people call themselves Christians, yet have a limited understanding of the words they read & the sermons they listen to! I turned out to be a Spiritual person & a respectful citizen, even after owning every single one of the animals that my elders cautioned me about!

I'm not sure they are evil in and of themselves. They may be the likeness of the devil in behavior since they can charm and seem innocent until it's too late to escape the deadly poison. They have their place in the world's food chains and keep rodent and other misc. critter populations under control just like spiders eat bugs. Wouldn't be wisdom to have them in-house even though man has dominion over them. I'm not called to be a snake-monger or handler. That's tempting the Lord to handle venomous snakes. Why the fascination? It's your step-father's house and if you want to go into that line of work, do it on the job i.e. a zoo or university department, etc. When you have your own place, well, don't suit my tastes but have all the non-venomous pet snakes you like in proper containment systems. Be glad you don't have a phobia of them. My mom's terrified of rubber snakes but I've learned to chop their heads off and I don't wait to see if they're poison or not!

...that's too religious.

Snakes can represent evil. The devil came in the form of a serpent (and will do so as a dragon)

But, Satan was also a musician. So that would (by your step-dad
s standards) make music evil.

The point is this: Satan can use anything on earth (INCLUDING RELIGION) to decieve and hurt men. But he can't change God or Jesus or the word of God.

Don't tell your step-dad off, just pray on it and do some Bible research. Honor his beliefs... Honoring your mom/dad is the first commandment with a promise: You live longer, and happier.

although your stepfather does not believe they should be in the house, (probably) because he does not like them (or) your mother does not like them, there is nothing in the Bible after Genesis that states that any particular animal is evil. as a matter of fact while Israel was being led out of the dessert they were instructed to make a bronze Snake and put it on top of a pole. and when someone was bitten they were to look at it snake to to save themselves , you can show this to your parents it is found in Numbers 21:8 and 9.

There's nothing wrong with snakes. We have one and it's just a snake. It hasn't caused any evil in the house... it doesn't have any supernatural powers... we're still happy... we still love each other. Dragons are actually considered to be protectors and are good to have around in many other countries. It's really all in your perception. If you don't want snakes and dragons around, don't have them. If you do, go ahead. Either way they won't hurt you (assuming the snake's not poisonous or anything).

People tend to associate snakes with the devil because of the Garden of Eden story. Many people do not realize that the snake is also a sign of Christ. Moses put a serpent on a pole in the wilderness so that those who looked upon it would be saved. Likewise, we are to look to Christ for our salvation. Jesus compared himself to the serpent in John 3:14-15 "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up: that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
It is OK for Christians to like snakes. They are part of God's wonderful creation.

I've never heard that a snake is evil per say, however in the Bible the devil often appeared in the form of a serpent/snake. The devil appeared in this form when he tempted Eve and also in the New testament when Jesus was tempted for 40 days....so maybe your step dad does have a point.

Your stepfather believes that Lucifer took the form of a snake when he conned Eve into disobeying God and so all snakes must be bad.

I don't agree with this at all, but you should honor thy father and thy mother.

Follow their rules and don't make too much of a fuss about it.

Then, when you're old enough and on your own, you can decide for yourself.

A snake is an animal. God created animals, and therefore, He created snakes. Not to mention, translators of the Bible to English are never sure of whether or not the original Hebrew actually meant 'snake' per se.

Also, dragons are mythological. As in, not real...so unless you're worshipping them as false idols, I don't see why having something unproven is bad.
