Well Geetha! Its pretty easy once you start doing it.
Well I do partition by two ways. Hope you too can adopt thsese steps.
1. Through Fdisk the one which comes from microsoft OS, Like Win 98 and XP.
2. Through third party tools like Segate DM-Disk Manager(Older Version), DiskWizard(new Version), which is so easy and most of the people use to do so.
IN DETAIL :
METHOD1. Now a days it's XP world or higher versions of OS are beeing used, so let me explain with XP.
Step1. Boot the system by keeping the XP CD, select boot with CD support if asked.
Step2: while Instalation, basicaly some files are copied, after that you observe, that, a option comes to you , to where the XP is to be installed, means, which partition do u want xp to be landed.
STEP 3: At here pay attenditon at the bottom of the screen to 'Delete' the partition and 'Make', depending on the curret posstion the options chage. The correspodnig task is hilighted with particular letter to go with, like, Delete - D, press D and to Create - C it seems not sure, but check while it is at installation process. Observe dead down end of ur pc to get that whie ur at that screen. OK.
STEP 4: Well, choose the existing partition, delte it first -d to press to delte, like that how many partitions are there u do so. So a whole volume of Storage space is one slice know.
STEP 5: Ok! and the next is to choose that whole one, give ur required partition sizes, be careful while you give size. Make sure the whole partition size and devide the number properly to go with.
Thats it! ur done with it, after creating, it asks for reboot to creat and format, press keys accordingly, there ur with ur desired partitions.
But, don't worry, after partitioning, you see some less in size, than you actually created, that will automatically taken by the OS for reserved purpose and is mandatory by System, we can do nothing in this case.
METHOD 2. In case of Segate DM
If you alredy have the software of DM go with, if not, you can dwonload it for free a newer version called Disk Wizard. Just click the follwoing linke to get it downloaded.
http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/drivers/discwiz.html
Get the ISO downloaded and insert a floppy or CD to get and click that ISO, that will auto burn on the location u say.
Thaen you can use that Floppy or CD as a boot up one,
Really, it is so easy to do with, it is GUI environment, with graphics to help you to choose the partition size and all.
I Damnly recomend this for you do go with, because, u seems new to this kind of PC operations.
OK, then Have a nice practice with your PC and post me the status and any doubts.
