If you get a burn or a bruise of any kind, the first thing to do is to put it in COLD water. The next thing to do is to prevent any possilbe infection, since some nurses will likely answer this question, I'll leave that part to them. But I would do what they say as a skin burn can become serious.

You weren't very specific with the type of burn (chemical or heat) or how severe the burn is, so it's hard to help. My only advice would be to NOT use butter on it, but place the burned appendage under lukewarm to cool water - NOT cold (and DO NOT use ice)! If it's a chemical burn, don't run it under water - you'll just spread it. Call a doctor if it's chemical, or if the skin is coming off, or if it's black or discolored.

If it is a recent burn then run it under cold water for 15-20mins.
If the burn is serious then see a doctor or hospital.

Aloe vera cream is the best! Try some from banana boat, I've tried it when I had a sun burn and it was the best.

Coco butter, especially if you are Latino or dark skinned.
If it is real bad, you may need antibiotic cream...
