I have an Xbox 360 and it has two sets of cables- Standard Red, Yellow, White/ and Red, Blue, and Green. My TV is HD and want to connect my 360 to it. What all do I need to plug in? And if it's possible, how can I still have my DirecTV receiver still hooked up so I can watch TV on a different output/ along with a sound system that has a Red and Yellow AV cables?

If you want to get HD out of your 360, then you need to use the red, green, blue known as component cables. If you have an HDTV, then you will have a set of component input connectors.

If your sound system is surround sound, then you should not use the red/white audio cables because this is stereo only. You should be using an optical audio cable from your 360 to your AV receiver.

As for your DirecTV receiver, you would be connecting these to another set of cables to your TV. Without information on your receiver, it's difficult to say exactly how you connect everything.

If done properly, all your audio and video should go through your AV receiver. Then, you should only have one or two video cables going from your receiver to your TV. This is the ideal setup.

Half of your question I don't understand but you can get a component to HDMI input cable that might work. Also the red blue and green cables are component cables or an older version of HDTV cables that split out picture colors only you still need the red and white cables Left and Right audio and also the yellow cable for the extra video input combined you get a pretty good looking picture but the new HDMI to DVI or straight HDMI cables now are producing the best pictures but you still need an HDTV with a tuner in it or an HDTV ready tv to get the best picture and sound results.

The RED, BLUE and GREEN are for the PICTURE only...The RED and WHITE are for the sound...The YELLOW is ALSO for picture but ISN'T needed when the red, blue and green are hooked up...These colors represent the SAME thing on ALL audio/video equipment.

Your TV should have enough plugs on the back for ALL your gear...You STEREO's inputs for SOUND should be red and white only...If your stereo DOES have the yellow jacks, it's for PICTURE and NOT sound...You've already run the picture cables to the TV...Just run red and white out (the sound) from you TV to your stereo.

you should be able too hook into the back of your reciever, it has i built in matrix.the cables are as follows red blue and green are component cables for hi def they carry picture only. the yellow red and white are rca jacks which carry both picture(yellow) and red and whit left and right audio. if you choose too use your component cables you need too also use the rca adio only. you will have too go straight too the tv if you use the component cables and audio and find the component input channel.if you use the rca only you can go through your reciever which will allow you too use the same video channel for both, or if you have more than 1 video input on your tv you will have too switch your inputs on the tv for either or.

match each cord to the color of the input on the back or the front of the tv and the red white and yellow cords are standard and the red blue and green cords are high definition

to still have your direc tv box hooked up to you would have to buy an a/v swith or a splitter
