Word associations, so associate things with other things which are easier to remember. This is the technique i use whenever i have an exam and it works great for me. Also try memory exercises for example memorising lists of words and numbers. The average person can memorise about 7 +/- 2 blocks of information but with practise this can be increased. If you need to remember a list of words then try to make a story about them which is easier to remember and links all the words together.
Another great exercise although more of a long term one is to learn a musical instrument. Simply practising it on a regular basis and remembering songs will help to improve your memory a great deal.

IF you want to expand your memory capacity you need to use your brain. Read, listen to world service, do a college course, or anything else that uses your brain, and using it will get easier and easier. Do what interests you. Then, after getting into a lifestyle which incorporates using your brain, you can use techniques to memorise lists. I think some people have put these down already. Pictorial techniques can work, but you need to experiment with different ones.

Both reading and concentration are two mental exercises to help. I believe that there's a theory stating that when you read or do certain tasks three times or more (like math and puzzles), you will remember what you are trying to learn for the rest of your life (for most people- not all). Furthermore, certain natural substances or synthetics "MAY" help too (like Gota Kola, Acetacholine, and various psychological drugs- anything that helps enhance what's called synapses (the process where dendrites and axioms are more excited by nerve ends firing microscopic chemicals and electricity [your nerve tissue in unison with very small electronic pulses and chemical processes that speed up the thought process area of the cerebral cortex brain area- like increasing current in a wire to brighten a light bulb to a certain point]). Cofee and caffine may also help this process, but, remeber, too much of one thing could cause problems with other things (like over working your heart).

another great way to remember lists of words, names or numbers is to create a story or phrase incorpoating the list in order as follows in its most basic form..
north east south west clockwise order of compass points can be remembered in order by saying
Naughty Elephant Squirts Water
in a more complex way use a journey you make often or a story you remember and incorporate the words into the story or journey somehow

reading is good.
if you really want to memorise something in particular, say it and write it down again and again, possibly even make some little story about it? draw pictures, make maps, there are lots of tricks. Make up visual aids to remind you...
I hope that you remember to resolve the question :-))
I hope that you recall the reason why you asked and can award me a few points :-) merry xmas!!

Think about a walk or a routine you do every day. Turn it into say 15 points, at each point have a fact to remember.
leave house point 1 = fact you wish to learn.
walk down path point 2 = " " " " "
at car point 3 = etc. etc.
Practise this and will help jog your memory.

there are three ways to help you remember one is grouping grouping. put your thoughts into groups. another way is to visualize. make pictures in your mind of what you are trying to remember. for instance if you have to remember the words tree, clown, and balloon. you might use the picture of a clown in a tree holding a balloon. another way is linking. and remember that the average person can only remember 5-7 numbers.
