I need to drive from Vancouver to Toronto around Christmas. Don't try to stop me because I have to and I cannot take flight. I am driving VW Passat with all-season tires. Is it needed to replace all of the tires with winter tires?

If it is needed, how about Goodyear Nordic? My current tire is 195/65/R15, which size is recommended?

Thanks

Which one provides more traction:

No, you can drive with all season tired throughout a canadian winter ifyou really wanted to. In Toronto right now there isn;t even snow and should be a green Christmas. I am not sure on the weather in vancouver.

If you choose against snow tires just drive extra carefully in snow conditions and be sure to watch out for black ice. You should be fine if you are cautious.

If you have a rear-wheel-drive vehicle that needs help in the snow, you can put a few bags of sand over the rear axle. Draw an imaginary line between the two rear wheels. That's the location of the rear axle, which is usually towards the front of the trunk.

The sand won't do as much good at the very back of the trunk as it will right over the axle. In fact, you can make things worse by putting too much weight too far back. In essence, by weighing down the rear end too much, you "lift up" the front end and lose some steering and braking abilities. So be sure to locate the right spot to place the extra weight.

if the bc highway department issues a snow tire alert you wont go thru the mountains without snow tires or chains, northern ontario can be bad at that time of year as well,go to kal tire and get some nokian wr tire in the same size as you have, they can be used all year long and are rated snow and mud.yes 4 is better than two
