Dogs are babies until they turn 2 years old so I wouldn't even consider a dog below that age. That would be cruel.

well it depends if you have papered dogs and if that is the case then the male needs to be 7 months or older and the female can be over 1 yr old. that way you can register the pups, and if you breed to young you will not be able to reg the pups because the club won't recgonize the litter as being a pure breed. and if you are thinking of breeding your dog at 2 months then you shouldn't be thinking of breeding. you need to do alot of research on the breed that you want to breed before you just go and do it. i am not trying to bash you or anything but i just want to make sure that you will be able to do it and that you will know what you are doing. research the breed and how to do it because i can be here all night with you to tell you what you would need to do to do a sucsessful breeding. i breed golden retrievers and i did alot of research on breedingand it took me a while to get it down but now i have been doing this for 13yrs and it was worth the wait. the longer you wait the better you will get at it and also i hope that you are not going to do this just for the money because i see to many unwanted dogs in shelters because of breeders not doing it right and finding good homes. good luck

Usually males about a year old start getting the urge when confronted with females in heat.... but it's better if you keep them apart till the male has reached 2, he is likely to be less excited and more able to perform without falling all over the place...
The female in heat should also be beyond a year old.... they should have stiopped growing before they have puppies to avoid complications.... but technically if a dog is in heat and a malle is attracted...they can successfully do it.
If you have never witnessed it, you may be rather shocked at what you see...or you may wish to avoid seeing it completely... it's not pretty.lol

Depending on the breed of the dog between 6 and 9 months of age. My mother raised Cocker Spaniels and Boston Terriers. She showed dogs too. We had all the American Kennel Club books. I even owned a pet shop. I have raised Poodles & Long haired Chihuahuas. This is the information the pet books gave us. It is best not to breed your dogs too young. Most people should spray and neuter their pets to protect the pet population and to save lives of animals who end up in shelters because there are not enough homes for them.

at least 2 years or older (it's very dangerous to breed dogs younger than this.)
