I had all the symptoms of depression, so I got set up with an appointment to go see a therapist. My appointment is next week, but now that I've been talking about it a bit, I'm starting to feel a little better.

How long were you feeling "depressed"? Was there something specific causing it? In my opinion, it's not unsual to get a bit depressed over the loss of a loved one or some other major change in your life. But it should pass....how long would depend....but like weeks, maybe a month or so.

If you had the symptoms for more than a couple of months and/or it has been interfering with your ability to function....go see a therapist.... even if you are feeling better right now.

A word or two of caution though: (1) not all therapists are "good"...so if you have any doubts about the person, stop going and (2) don't do drugs unless you really need to....they can be difficult to get off of (like Prozac).

Not too long ago I thought I was depressed but I was relieved to find out that I had an extremely low potassium level.
I had been very moody. I cried at the drop of a hat. I was so tired all the time. My nerves were shot and I slept as long as possible.
So there are other reasons other then depression for alot of symptoms of it. keep your appointment anyhow. It will help.

It doesn't hurt to see a therapist,
but often people can go through temporary depressions and come out of it as quickly as they went in. Its all based on chemical balances within the brain. You might have a bad day one day for no reason, except that your a little low on dopamine. Its amazing how complex the brain is.

Unless you're chronically depressed, its possible that your depression is over and you'll be fine…but don't cancel your appointment

after all, therapists need to put bread on the table somehow…

If it meets diagnostic criteria for clinical depression. Five or more symptoms (some specific) and it lasts more than 2 weeks. Check the DSM criteria via the link.

Beleive it or not thereapists and pyshciatrists don't really fix people with their problems mus they mostly just listen. Most people get their problems relieved just if they get to talk everything out with someone. Those people are just their to listen to your problems and cope with out. Your therapist will probably just tell you how to keep this up and how not to fall back on your depression if you are feeling better.

Talking to someone you trust helps a lot!

Keeping your emotions bottled up are not healthy.

Good Job to talking it out..

I wish you luck in the future.
