Probably a condition called "Swimmers Ear". I used to get it all the time as a kid. There's water stuck in the Eustachian tubes in your ear, and it's not draining properly.
Some tips for coping are turning the hair dryer on the affected ear, holding it 18 - 20 inches away, using a low warm setting, Warm oil drizzled in the ear helps immensely. My mom used vegetable oil, but baby oil or mineral oil is recommended. Place a bottle in a pan of body temperature water, let sit until the oil is warm. Put a drop or two into the ear, it will lessen the pain. Chew gum, yawn, and good ol' pain killers.
The above is only to be used while waiting for medical attention. You do need to see the doc!

one of two things that have worked for me is to use an electric heating pad on low and lay with the ear on it ...it warms and drys at the same time..helps to relieve the pain. The other method that I use is from my granny... heat some table salt up , in a pan on the stove, not in the microwave...when it is a little more that warm, put it into a hanky and tie it with a rubber band. Hold this next to your ear.. it will relieve the pain, warm and dry the ear.

Take a capful of hydrogen peroxide and tip your head over and pour the capful in. Stuff a piece of cotton in your ear to keep the liquid from draining out. Repeat a few times over the next few days. It will clear up an ear infection and save you a fortune in antibiotics.
