fencing first and foremost, perimeter training on top of that may help. I have walked our dog along "invisible" perimeters outside normal fence line every day on lead, and if he steps out a good yank on lead and the perimeter command i just use "yard" whilst he is never outside his fenced area when we are not at home, but he knows what boundray not to cross. I wouldnt rely soley on invisible perimeters though, you just dont know what could entice your dog out of the zone.

A tall, secure fence is the best way. I don't recommend tying her up. This can cause some dogs to become aggressive. It has to do with their fight or flight response. Being tied up takes away their ability to escape uncomfortable situations, so if they can't "fly," they'll fight.
Also, obedience training is key. When we got our first Golden Retriever puppy, I would take him outside on a leash. I'd walk the boundaries of our yard and if he crossed the border, I'd give the leash a good yank and say "NO!" We could let him out without watching him and he'd stay in the yard, even if the neighbors called him. He was an especially we behaved dog, though, so I don't know how well this would work with other dogs.

You need to make you back yard escape proof which may take some work. It is impossible to teach a dog to stay in the yard 100%

brewer9,
The best way to keep a dog from running away, I believe, would be a secured fence, because if a dog sees an appetizing female going by, there's no training that would keep him from running after her. He's just an animal...they just follow instincts. Good luck

She would possibly simply mechanically be trained it from the opposite puppies. If they keep via your facet probabilities are so will your dog. In the imply time simply paintings along with your new dog instructing him instructions comparable to take a seat, and are available. Basic obedience is going a ways in preserving your puppy secure.

If it's not a fenced-in backyard, the only way you can keep her still is by tying her up to a chain. You can usually get a decent length for chains, but you'll need to make sure the stake is securely in the ground or else it could come out and her collar is on securely or else she could just slip her head out of it.
I don't suggest putting her near a tree or anything she can wrap around the leash, however, or she could find herself with a very small amount of space very quickly.
