it depends what state you live in. Some will let her sign for you but others you have to be 18 no matter what. Check into the laws in your state.

well i think you should wait until your like 21! why you may ask?!?!?!?!? well for one reason only- you'll be a different person from now and 21! your look at life will change and things about you also will change! I waited until I was 21 and i think it was soooo worth the wait! I did it on my own and each of my tattoos mean something personal to me! I know at 18 i had an idea of what i wanted but it changed every couple weeks! So i would have made such a big mistake if i didn't wait! I would have had a stupid tattoo and asking myself "why did i even do that?" Just be careful and KNOW what you want! once it's there, it's there!

I have a few tattoos, and I will have more. I love them all, and have designed them myself. I had the first one designed for 4 years before I got it (although I was 18 @ the time of the tat). I have researched the historical, societal, and linguistic meaning of each thoroughly before going through with it. All mean something important to me and mark important times in my life. I am all for tattoos if you understand them as enhancements of your physical and emotional self. If you are getting one because you think they're cool or sexy or pretty, I would reevaluate my motivations. The first guy to answer you, Hisemiester, actually has a lot of sense. Don't go and pick something from a wall somewhere so that you can show it off to all of your friends, and prove how mature you are. If you want a tattoo, be sure you will be as proud to explain it to your children and grandchildren as you will be to explain it to your high school classmates.

I wouldn't recommend it. You are only 17, and you don't have many life experiences to draw on for ideas that match who you are. Besides, any tattoo artist worth anything will refuse you, even if your mom says it's OK.
Graduate high school, go out of state, travel around, meet new people, go to college, and find out who you REALLY are. then you can make a better decision about what stories you want your skin to display for the rest of your life.

Your best bet would be to call the shop where you plan on getting the tattoo and ask their policy on that because even if it is legal in your state with parental consent some shops still will not do it until you are 18.

Some states will allow a minor with the parents consent (you will need the parent there with your birth certificate and there ID) some will not. My best answer I can give you is to call a local shop and ask!
Good luck with your search for your first tattoo

the tattoo shop will be able to tell you as they are bound by law on age for tattoos. i myself let my daughter get a tattoo. its her body, i also have tattoos. what i tell anyone thats interested in getting a tattoo is to get good recommendations to find a good tattooist. you want someone clean, and they will walk you thru your artwork. remember, this is a permanent art piece. get something you will not reqret later in life. and of course, location is a good point to consider as age will affect it. also, tattoo's that are close to the spine, the bone will hurt a bit more. but what most will tell you, its like a burn that someone rubs. the pain will go away. take good care of it, follow your tattooists instructions and dont pick!. good luck. :)

I am a man of 65 years. You apparently are a young lady. My advise to you is to take pride in your god given body. Be proud of the gift he has given you. Don't mark it with other things. If God had wanted you to have tattoos, he would have given them to at birth. As a young boy, I joined the Air Force. (16). I spent the next years traveling around the world, 18 times. Many of my buddies got tattooed. However to this day, I am proud I stayed away from them. I would hope you do not get a tatoo. It will mark you for life.
Yours,
The Hisemiester
