I am considering becoming Catholic and know that I need to take these classes, but can you tell me about them. Why are they only offered once a year for six months or so? At a local parrish, the only one on the Internet I could find, they are only offered at night which i would not be able to go to--are they offered another way? Any info would be helpful.

If you belong to a parish, ask there. Many Parishes have their RCIA sessions on Sunday mornings to allow (and encourage) attendance at mass. The process begins with your decision to become a Catholic, then it continues as you grow in your faith. It could be from 8 months to two years... depending on when you feel ready. Some parishes will get you "through" the process in less than a year, but others will really put it in your hands and ask you to be honest with where you want to go with your faith... it's about saying YES to the Church and living your life as a Christian (Catholic).
WELCOME my friend, welcome!!!

When I took the classes as a refresher, they lasted quite some time. I don't remember how long but, for example, there was a class for each sacrament. And, of course, there were other subjects.

There probably aren't enough people to have more than one class, is my guess plus the classes run for quite awhile.

I remember that I took them at night after work. We have a Catholic Information Center which had several classes going at once but then I live in a large city.

If you are near a fairly big city they might have a Catholic Information Ctr. Call a parish & they would probably know.

The Catholic faith is the complete faith, so there's quite a bit to understand about it.

Additionally, the RCIA program is designed to properly introduce you to, and make you a part of the faith community.

The time frame is designed to get you baptized (if necessary) into the church on Easter Sunday.

To find out if there are classes scheduled at other times in your area, call the local diocesan adult education office. They should have the number at your local church's office.

Due to your unique circumstances, you should still 'sign up' for RCIA classes. When you do you will be given a sponsor. Request one that is able to work with your schedule, and they can meet in your home, or you at thiers to guide you through the materials.

Good luck! And Welcome home!!

you may want to check different parishes, My grandparents used to teach this class and they did it on a sunday afternoon and I think it was once a month for a couple of months.
There's a lot to learn.
