I used to worry about the weight that antidepressants caused me but after almost dying after taking a bottle of sleep meds because because I was so depressed I don't worry about it so much. I gained 60 lbs in 12 months. I am happier and more outgoing than I have ever been in my life because after 5 years of the wrong combo of meds I finally got the right ones to make me normal. I have lost 30 lbs of the weight and have 30lbs to go. It has come off slowly with a lot of walking and Weight Watchers. But if you don't lose the weight it will be okay. Learn to love yourself as you are and live life to the fullest daily. It could be worse you could be six feet under because you are worried about not taking meds because of the weight gain. Good luck, God Bless you.

I don't remember which specific ones make you gain and which make you lose. But several of the antipsychotics make it easier to gain weight. And most of the antidepressants (SSRIs) can have you gain like five pounds.

If you're concerned about the weight gain go to your prescribing doc about it. Have them work with you to find the right balance of diet and exercise. Whatever you do, do not go off the meds just because they're making you gain weight. It's better to be a little heavy than to have your life out of control.

I know how frustrating meds can be. Hang in there!

Yes!!! I have gained 45 pounds taking Zyprexa and I take 2 different antidepressants. I just joined weight watchers and a gym that has hand ball courts. Hopefully working out will help me lose the pounds.

A lot of those make you gain weight! I started gaining a lot of weight after I started taking those. Xnax, Lithium and klonopin all made me gain weight. I didn't realize they were making me gain weight when I first started taking them. Now when I go to the doctor I tell him not to put me on anything that makes me gain weight. Just ask your doctor if weight gain gain is a side affect when ever he puts you on something new. Read the patient infor. when you get it.

Yes, but I've lost about 15 pounds without exercise recently. I've discovered the human body needs far less food than most people feed it. This is not an invitation to be anorexic... however.

most antidepressants are weight gainers. Paxil you can really pack the weight on. Go ask your doctor which one doesn't make you gain as much.
