The others are right. A good quality puppy food for starters. Give the recommended feeding servings and get him out to play often. Teach him to play ball, frisbee (mine would do flips as she jumped to catch it), and tug-o-war with a rope. A rope from a tree is something pit bulls gravitate to. I've had several who love to swing from them.
Keep his mind sharp. My personal girl could choose the toy I asked for...she would look up in the trees when I mentioned a squirrel.
Neutering - definitely get this done. As one poster said...wait until about a year old. If he wasn't a pit bull I would suggest 18 months. The testosterone is one of the driving forces in muscle development. Let's face it...pitties are a fighting breed. The longer you wait on neutering, the potential for real aggression towards other dogs is very real. They do NOT have a natural aggression towards people. Loyalty to people has been bred into them just as strong as the desire to fight other dogs has been...if not stronger.
You have an incredibly loyal and intelligent dog in the most impressionable stage of his life. Treat him right and keep his mind sharp and body healthy and you will have no better dog...:-D
I have two un-neutered males here...they cannot get together, but one of those is a house dog and gets on great with all the other dogs...who happen to be female of different breeds...all fixed, of course...and one neutered male mountain cur mix. The pitties are under the court system and cannot be altered until released.

I'm definite giving them a kind of animal multi-diet and together with recreation will lead them to bulk up. If you name a neighborhood vet or ask any person at a puppy retailer close through they must realize a distinct kind of meals/diet complement so as to aid.

Feed him raw meat. Try to mimic a diet that a wolf would have in the wild. It's expensive, but feeding a dog a diet like this will make him really buff up.

If you are going to fix him (which you should) wait until he is at least a year. Take him for lots of walks and play. That would be the healthiest way to "beef" him up.
