I had a similar problem! At first he was terrified of the tree and then little by little he started to go closer and closer until he was in it! Of course I was horrified, since all of my decorating work was being put at risk, not to mention my cat could hurt himself. In his case, he got bored of the tree and got over it and went back to hunting lizards in the garden, but what I would suggest to you, is to get someone to hold the tree steady while you allow the cat to check the tree out a bit...once he/she gets a feel for it and realizes that it is nothing that exciting, he should get over it....the novelty will wear off and he should be fine...good luck!!

Try to keep the cat out of the room where you have the tree, if that doesnt work, spray a little bit of water with a spray bottle, and unless your cat loves water, (like mine) it will eventually learn.

What works for me is a spray bottle of water. Every time it goes near the tree give it a good spray and a firm no. Cats don't like water. It will get the hint. This works for me on other things I don't want them into. Good luck and Merry xmas.

We always have our tree in the corning of our living room, and discreetly wire the top quarter to the wall (by two small hooks) so the cats can't knock it down.

Take the tree down and try again next year when the cat is older.

Every time the cat is around an area that you don't want it to be in, take a squrit bottle and spray the cat with it.
It's worked for our cat, Sparkles, from jumping up on the table and counter.

I found motion alarms that set off a loud sound when something moves in the area. It takes a day or two, but then they stay away unless the cat is deaf

I tied some string around mine and tied it to hooks in the wall. And put some pepper around the bottom. She sniffed and hasn't been back.
