My 14 year old brother is in New Zealand right now, and I wanted to know what time it is for him when I look at my clock. I am in Missouri which is on Central Standard Time. So if someone could tell me what the time difference is between my brother and I, I would be very grateful.

From CST, its actually +19 hours. 6:45PM on December 16, Central is 1:45PM on Dec 17 in New Zealand

If you just want to know the time (ignoring the date) you could just subtract 5 hours, that's easier to calculate quickly by looking at a clock than adding 19 hours. Just remember to add a day when thinking that.

New Zealand also observes daylight savings time during the summer months (during the US winter). Officially, New Zealand would be 18 hours ahead of US Central; however, since it is currently observing DST it is 19.

Others are answering that it is only +13, this is based on GMT (Greenwich Mean Time), and New Zealand DST. US Central is -6 of GMT. So 13 minus -6, using math that we learn in elementary school equals +19.

Of course this all changes when US Central moves to DST, and New Zealand moves off of DST; and there are a few weeks of the year that both US and New Zealand will be on DST.

New Zealand observes DST between the 1st Sunday of October through the 3rd Sunday of March; while the US observes between the 2nd Sunday of March and the 1st Sunday of November (this is a new change for the US beginning in 2007) So, between the 2nd Sunday of March and the 3rd Sunday in March; and again between the 1st Sunday of October and the 1st Sunday of November both countries will be on DST.

New Zealand is 13-hour ahead of US Eastern Time. What you need to do is add 13-hour to your current time and you should get it right!
