I'm not sure where you are finding the term "gossips". In the NIV translation you have this passage that lists gossips.
Romans 1: 28Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips (psithuristḗs), 30slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
The Greek word translated as "gossips" is psithuristḗs. A psithuristḗs is someone who is "a whisperer, a secret slanderer. It is similar to katálalos (G2637), an accuser, a backbiter who does his slandering openly.
So a person who does this isn't just spreading news about someone else. They are seeking to harm the character of the person whom they are talking about. This type of behavior violates what Jesus said was the second greatest commandment, to "love your neighbor as yourself".
While someone might slip into the sin of spreading gossip in this passage from Romans it describes people who make a lifestyle of such behavior. They are unrepentent sinners and so they will not inherit the kingdom of Heaven as is described in this parallel passage from 1 Corinthians chapter 6.
9Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
In this country people don't lose their citizenship for engaging in such behavior or for any other crime. Malicious slanderers can be taken to court and suffer the penalty that the judge determines is suitable for their offense. Whether or not justice is done here on earth God will ultimately see that people who have not trusted in Jesus for their salvation pay the penalty of living unrepentent sinful lifestyles.

Do you think God wants to spend eternity listening to a bunch of gossipers?

I could tell you who they are, but that would be gossiping.
