That is a good idea, as helping others does give you a tremendous boost when you need it.

If you go on the samaritans website, you can also look into volunteer work. I've done that myself and will be joining my local Samaritans group for listening counsellors for a few hours a week.

Youth work, charity work, volunteering for local schools, retirement homes, hospitals etc. Getting out there for charities and doing that really helps them, helps others and of course, helps you.

Don't get dependant though on using others as a way to make yourself feel good. Treating yourself with things that make you feel happy, people that make you feel happy and spoiling yourself sometimes, really does help you feel more confident.

Have faith in yourself. You have to at the end of the day, if anyone else is going to.

Random acts of kindness - you'll be surprised at how good that can make you feel. It's all the little things that add up. If someone is helpful to you in a shop for instance, tell their manager how nice they were - it will make their day. Be courteous and forgiving to other car drivers - it's so much more pleasant that hooting your horn. Put a coin in every charity collection box you see. Be actively pleasant to all your colleagues at work (even if you don't like all of them). Try and do at least nice one thing for someone every day.

just live your life as usual, but be a little more indulgent and generous with other people who you feel deserve that little extra attention. Dont try to make friends with then, just try to help. open doors to a little old lady, give a fiver to a tramp, say good morning to a stranger at the bus stop etc. these are little things which cost us nothing, but are small human acts which are usually never forgotten.
