I joined the army reserves back in 2003, trained for a year, cam home and was attached to a unit 4 hours away from my house (even though there was a unit 20 min. away). The driving wasn't really a problem; however, there was no position for me over there, i was communications and this was all medical personnel. I served no purpose to them. On the way to drill one weekend my truck blew a part out of my caliper and I was stranded, no way of making it there. I was low on money and had no transportation for a while, needless to say I couldn't make it to the next few drills. During this time I tried desperately to contact them... phone calls, emails, calling higher command in other places, even sent them certified mail... no response. I get a phone call one day asking where I've been... come on. They gave me the option of going back or taking a general discharge. I was so fed up with it I left, I couldn't handle their incompetence. I want in - air force, can I after all this???

I would try talking to an Air Force recruiter to see what your options are. Give them your discharge papers and tell them your story and see what they have to say. They can probably get an answer for you quicker than you doing the leg work yourself.

I think GW Bush already used this story. Sorry just kidding. The best thing for you to do is contact an Air Force recruiter and ask. They'll probably classify you as prior military service and for whatever reason it's very hard for anyone to enter the service in that status. Good Luck!

From what you said you took the general discharge. you could have stayed in and went through IRR. This would have been one way for you to get back in. Most Likley you will not be able to get back in the only thing you can do is take your dd214 to the recruiters and let them look at it. There is a RE code on it that will tell them if they can accept you. I hope this info helps.

i might propose the Air stress over the army KT. I say that because of the fact I even have served and deployed with the two. The Air stress has a tendency to handle its human beings slightly greater effective and because their challenge isn't so heavily wrestle appropriate you have not got as plenty probability of being deployed to a wrestle section or in contact straight away with wrestle operations. residing circumstances are tremendously austere in those environments additionally so in case you do unlike airborne dirt and airborne dirt and dust under your fingernails the army isn't a good selection. the army's suggestions-set to dealing with its human beings is plenty greater durable mentally and bodily because of this to boot and that they have got a tendency to no longer opt for to hold human beings in as super of numbers. So in case you're pondering an prolonged term profession and eventual retirement i might additionally opt for the Air stress over the army. collectively as curiously like i'm anti military right here believe me, i'm no longer as some do come to a determination to serve in that provider over others. some even have long and worthwhile careers however the army is plenty harsher with and in direction of its human beings and so is serving in it because of the fact they'd desire to be that way a super type of the time with the aid of their challenge. In some approaches it takes a particular individual to handle being contained in the army or the Marine Corps and not all and sundry is cut back out for it.

The best thing to do is talk to the recruiters. I know in the past you wouldn't. But with everything going on, they might have changed the policy

your story doesn't make sense. You can't be forced to serve in a Reserve unit over 50 miles from the zip code you reside in, and it doesn't matter that your MOS wasn't compatible. You would've been put in a "will-train" MOS.

The answer is actually no. They still will not accept individuals who have been in any other branch of service. In fact, the Army is the only branch who will accept individuals who have previously served in another branch.

I don't see why you could not, but it would depend on what was in your file. You might have to give them your discharge papers and they will tell you from that. Good luck
