Sadly, some candidates from both parties use the religion card to garner votes.

I don't like to see the religion card played and I don't vote for anyone based solely on their religion or gender. I look at the issues and what their voting record has been (sometimes they say one thing and vote the opposite). I think it's great that you take an interest in politics at such a young age. We need more young people to be informed so they can make a difference---and you don't need to be old enough to vote to influence others who can vote.

Both parties are actually using God to get elected. Remember the quote of John Kerry concerning homosexuals-"I believe we are all God's children." But religion and politics do not always have to be separated. Religion is a large part of America. Thou shall not murder, thou shall not steal, it is concepts like these that guide the basic morals of the political system. We have made these morals murky in the past decades, but they are still there. I am a Republican and I understand where you are getting at. We depend on religion for our morals. However, there are many Democrats that only use religion when it is to their advantage, like what you see in Kerry's quote. The same Kerry is also pro-abortion. So some people contradict themselves concerning religion a lot, especially in politics.

No thats good that you know whats going on in politics. I'm registered as a Republican but I vote either way. I have to agree I think some politians use God as a way to get people into voting for them. That can be Democrats or Republicans.

For the last about 45 years left-wing politicians have been able to spew out their bigotry from the pulpits in Black churches. No one complained. But when conservative politicians aligned with White conservative churches-then it became wrong. Why is it okay for Democrats to use Black churches to get votes from Black people, if Republicans can not do the same in White churches. Whats the difference.

I am a conservative and an atheist.

Some do and some don't. You can't make blanket statements like that. The democrats also sometimes use the elderly or poor by instilling fear in them that isn't real.

The one blanket statement you can make is that politicians do a lot of dishonest things for votes, and that is both sides.

Using God for gain seems to be the rule today instead of they exception. It makes me very sad. This is one of the reasons people have no respect for the church today.

If you're referring to George W. Bush, he is not using religion, he is using the "Plain-folk" image. Meaning, he appeals to the general population because he is "just like" the average American. Whether that means 'stupid' or 'ignorant,' that's anybody's guess.
