The problem is that anyone who has the desire to rise to that level has to engage the system, lest they not be considered by those who might propel them to the station they have to secure in order to do anything at all, because without their support it would never happen. Most are lost in the process, as they continue to rely on those who brought them to power so that they can serve the needs of those they set out to serve in the first place. It is a sad part of the political system that we rely upon to provide leaders. Someone needs to betray those who brought them power and rely on the power of the people to carry them through. It would work, if only they dared to try.
