Most people will tell you how to avoid feelings of loneliness, but I'd suggest you try to embrace them instead.

Explore the depths of the 'well of loneliness' and allow yourself to entertain a "dark night of the soul." By learning not to fear your shadow-side so much, you will find find a hidden treasure trove of inner-strength. Otherwise you will spend your whole life running from your true self and never being able to be truly intimate with others as you cannot let yourself get too close to your own soul. And that's REAL loneliness . . .

So don't try to fix it - consider sitting with it and learning what your feelings of loneliness have to teach you about yourself instead!

The answer to your question is difficult at best. But you can try many things until you find something that helps you. Try hanging out with friends or a friend. Try going to a mall, sometimes being around a lot of people helps even if you don't know them. Try calling someone on the phone, someone you can talk to for a long time like three or four hours. Try looking at photo album(s)with or without someone around. What helps me the most when I start feeling alone is to do something right away. Good luck

TAKE A WALK!

Get off yer butt, go outside, and just walk around for an hour or so. Try to walk in nice areas, parks or other green and interesting place. And look around you, check everything out! Don't maunder around in the dark recesses of your mind wondering, "Why am I like this?" "Why did I do that?" "What's WRONG with me?"

(Chances are, what's REALLY "wrong" with you anyway is that you spend WAY too much time inside your own head....)

Get outside, check things out, check PEOPLE out. Instead of watching yourself all the time start watching others. They are WAY more interesting, because you know a lot LESS about them.....

Once you find yourself more interested in the things and people around you, get yourself a hobby, (or a goal or purpose for your life,) oh and maybe a dog, too......

(when you stop to think about it, loneliness is hardly a rational emotion on a tiny little planet like this with SIX BILLION people on it, is it?........)

If it's not a common thing, go get drunk and sleep it off tomorrow. You might find some guy at the bar to make out with.

If it is common (has been happened for more than a couple weeks) you may have depression and should go see a doctor.

You're lonely because you want another to be around, and they're not. So be alone, which is wonderful... love your own company. That is not loneliness.

Loneliness is a cloak you wear
A deep shade of blue is always there
The sun ain't gonna shine anymore
The moon ain't gonna rise in the sky
The tears are always found in your eyes
When you're without love...Hey...Hey...Righteous Brothers Song

Like the song says...put on sadness and YOU R SAD
The sun will shine...and the moon WILL rise...
Oftimes we feel sorry for ourselves...Some take pills or alcohol.
I used to have a friend who drank to celebrate, drank to lose the blues,etc...he admitted he just LIKED to drink!
Some of us LIKE being sad...
CHEER UP...pray some...you'll be OK

I play music that reminds me of happier times in my life. I have CD's made that are for my different moods. It helps to listen to nature sounds too, I really thought that was wierd but I will do that sometimes and just curl up in bed with a good book listening to nature sounds.

Go biking or hiking in the canyons if you leave near them. Try to get into long distance running and exercise. Try to get some higher education, or get involved with community services.

I write a poem about my feelings and then I feel better. When I reread the poem I just think about how wonderful it is, then i go about my day.
