what's the appropriate amount of money to give a pastor at a funeral?

I had the same question a couple of months back but no one had an answer for me. Unfortunately, I found out the hard way. If the pastor has been your families pastor for a long time he/she will be offended by money or at least mine was. I had given him and his wife who played the organ during the ceremony a card with a personal letter and some money - the wife brought the money back to me in tears. The reasoning was they were part of our family and was in mourning as well. So a few days later, I opted to invite the pastor and his family out to a very chic restaurant where we reminisced over better times and the evening ended with only a few tears and whole lot of laughter.

None give it to the family who lossed a loved one and spent fortune on funeral. Unless you meant yourself being the family than give him some flowers for making the funeral special

People charge for funeral services? In the Church I attend, NOBODY charges - the organist and speakers all come out of love and support. Those who provide the meal afterward do it without charge and as a service to the grieving family. What kind of churchgoers charge people in mourning to help honor and bury their dead!!!

You could always ask him, but to me, that's part of his job. I've heard of pastors "milking" people out of money, so beware of that. Best of luck to you.

$50.00 if the Pastor is at both the funeral home and the cemetery. If they just do one, then $25.00.

Take in to consideration how far he had to travel to perform the service and keep in mind the price of gas.
