Jesus said that he was going away to prepare a place for us, and then Paul said that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Also Jesus said to the thief on th cross that this day you will be with me in paradise. Plus you might remember that there are going to be two different judgments, the judgment seat of Christ which is for the believers, and the Great White Throne judgment which is for none believers. The spirits that will be resting until the day of judgment are those that die in sin. I pray that you will go back and study some of these things and I'm sure that your understanding will began to grow on this subject. God Bless.......

There are even more problems to the concepts of heaven and hell than that.
True followers of God, Jesus, whoever, should not need a heaven to reward them or a hell to punish them, but just a being to believe in.
I do not need to believe in either, because I just know to do what is right, I don't need there to be fire and brimstone to scare me into doing good to the world. I love the world. I love the people of the world. I see no reason to do evil and too many to do good, and heaven and hell are not on of the reasons to do good.
Christianity has been morphed throughout the ages by monarchs in Europe to make the peasents easier to control. It was easiest to make those images of heaven and hell because it gave them more power over what the peasents would do.

You say "EVERYONE" thinks as you described above, but you exaggerate. I do not think that way. The devil has no horns or pitchfork, and doesn't even have a body. Hell will be where you weep and wail and gnash your teeth because you'll know you should have done better and gone to a better place. A person there will NOT literally burn - just their conscience will burn with guilt and remorse. You're right about spirits resting until resurrection and judgment. You're also right that we should read the BIble!

In hell you will burn forever and there will be nashing of thier teeth and it also mentions that those who are in hell will feel pain. Pitchfork I don't think so. When we go to heaven we will be sitting at the right hand of the throne of God, and thier will be no more sorrow or pain. The lion will lay with the lamb. It also mentions that thier will be streets of gold. My choice heaven.

There are many instances in the bible where it mentions that it will be 'eternal' hellfire. Not just a one shot deal. No, God does not want to punish His creation, but His gives us all a choice, and if we so choose to accept Him, we will not burn forever. It's a choice He gives us, as well as free will.

One quote from the Bible.....Just one of MANY ! Then why does it say that liars shall have their part in the lake of fire ??!! What about the drop of water the rich man wanted to cool his tongue ??!! Get your facts straight then talk !!!! There is a hell with fire and brimstone.......God says the fire is so hot, its black!! I wish God would give people like you a glimpse of hell ! YOU HAVE TO BE JEHOVAH WITNESS ! We aren't even reading the same Bible.......I read KJV ! So you cant possibly understand ! God does say, He will have mercy upon whom He chooses ! Hope that's you ! Ignorance will only carry you so far, but once you've been told, its up to you at that point.......

Jesus' own words:
Matthew 26:64
"Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied. "But I say to all of you: In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven."
Luke 23:43
Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."
Mark 9:43
If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out.
Luke 16:23
In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.
