I was told he was a long haired chihuahua but i know he is mixed with something else. My vet thinks he might be mixed with a terrier ( he has some brown spots and he is very active) but i don't know for sure what he is. Can anybody help? he is about 10lbs and longer than a chihuahua

It is still possible he is a chi and is out of conformation guidelines. This happens with people breeding their 'great' dogs when they don't know what they are really needing to breed for. Then they don't have registration and they just sell the puppies and say what they are or might be. No dna will be worth doing since it is not a registerable puppy anyways.
You can find pictures of different breeds and see if you can see any characteristics in your chi. But if there is terrier in it then you will see the bigger nose, little bit larger paws. But the nose gives it away, especially since chi's have little noses.

You wouldn't know even with a DNA test. The mother or father could have also been a mix, and there is no DNA test available to test for ALL the possible breeds in a mixed breed dog. If such a test were available, the cost would be astronomical. Your vet probably guessed the closest .... terrier.

Look at it this way: You love your dog, and that's what matters the most :) Give him a belly rub from me :-)

There isn't any way to tell, and a DNA test that would tell you is not available. It's anybody's guess. If he's a nice dog, be happy and enjoy his company. The best dog I ever had looked like he was made out of spare parts!!!

DNA won't tell you a dogs breed. There is no way to know for sure if your dog is mixed or purebred.
Your dog could still be purebred even if he doesn't meet standard. If he didn't come from a responsible breeder who breeds to the breed standard anything is possible.

He just turned out huge. but from the looks of the pic, he looks all chi to me....

They're right...you can't tell. Your vet probably knows better than anyone else...probably a terrier or perhaps a Dachshund.

You can only have an educated guess. There is no DNA test to confirm breed.
