Last night I prayed sincerely for an hour, and asked for poverty and disease amongst good innocent people to be gone when I awoke today, when I woke up I fealt great- then I turned on the news and realised that my selfless pleas had gone unanswered. Have I been ignored or is there no one to hear my prayers?

its not only you and it was quite selfless and good of u to pray for others though i wont agree with u that there is no one to answer our prayers.
sometimes u just have to be patient and look at the kind of thing u asked for, u asked for poverty to be diminished.
the first rule of god on earth is everything exists in pairs if there is light there in darkness in the same context there will be no poor if there were no poor and if there was no disease then i dont think anyone would realize the value of good health.
and one more important thing is that u reap what u sow it has even been shown in a book called born again by dr walter simkew it speaks about rebirth and reincarnations.
i think u should read that book it shows that there is a relation between ones current life and ones past life one will experience what he has inflicted upon otheres read that book that will help u understand what im talking about
hope this has answered ur question
all the best

You prayed for poverty and disease to be gone, and you expected all the worlds problems to be saved by the next morning? Did you graduate high school? I mean, really! Did it even cross you mind how many people pray that same prayer every single day?? Apparently not. The answer is this: God does not just automatically answer every decent prayer out there. If he did, this world would be quite a mess. Think about it... someone prays for world peace. Someone else prays for their country to win a war. Interesting, huh? Not really gonna work out both ways... seeing as winning means fighting and peace means no fighting... Just trust God and stop trying to control the world, because that's what you're doing. Read the Bible for an hour, then go find a good pastor and ask him every question you can come up with. If he can't answer, find a different pastor. And do that till you get your answer. Bible, prayer, pastor. And start thinking when you do something. God has a plan for EVERYTHING. Sheesh, some people here are pretty dern ignorant about religion...

I guess that the thing you prayed for is the one thing every one desires: heaven on earth. It's not here. Life in this world sucks. And it's going to until it's over. I'm often afraid to ask God for what I want, because I'm afraid to ask for what shall not be mine, or ask him for a thing that he doesn't want to give me.

You weren't ignored. The answer to your prayer is just not in or of this world. Poverty ceases in one place, and one place only: in heaven.

I'm not celebrating the holidays this year. A request that I made of God may have been rejected, but I still don't know for sure. It's a story without an ending. The longing, waiting, wishing tends to hurt the longer I wait. IT hurts more during the holidays.

I guess that I desire the same thing you do: heaven. That's the real reason the holidays get celebrated. It's not because Jesus was born, because he was born in a different month. It's our way of telling God how we want the whole year to be.

I don't pray because I think I'm good. That I prayed for foolish things is obvious to me.
I often feel that God might be angry at me, and that's the reason why my desire has been withheld or rejected. And it certainly might be the case.

Because I want my loved ones to go to heaven, I tell myself that some losses I could bear as long as none of them are lost. I could even handle the grief and mourning of their departing from my life as long as it isn't for ever.
Uncertainty and confusion are part and parcel of living in this sucky world.
As to the innocent, they're the only people who CAN suffer. To the guilty, pain and suffering are things that just
let them off the hook to do more evil. That's one way that
they justify their crimes.
I do believe that when I pray for others to be forgiven, or rescued that those prayers are answered.
But my prayers for what I desire are not now granted.
Your request is more selfless than mine. The answer to that request is nothing else but the kingdom of heaven that Jesus spoke of. You weren't ignored. One day, you'll have that request granted.

What you've done is not called prayer, but tempting God. (This, considering that you actually prayed for one hour, which I doubt.) Tempting as in "I'll try to pray, let's see if God listens to me." There are some things that will never change, because they depend on the free will of some people. Saints can do a lot through their prayers, such as healing the sick and even helping the poor, because their prayer is indeed sincere and their faith in God unshakable.

Praying for the poor and the sick is an ancient tradition of the Church, still going on to this day, and it is obviously a good thing to do (if actually interested, of course), as long as you are modest enough to leave to God the choice about how to listen to your prayer.

Hundreds of millions prayed for your god to stop Hitler before he caused 30+ million to die during WWII and he did NOTHING. A simple little blood clot would have done the trick, say in 1934, but NOOOOOO. If this god of yours could turn a good woman into a pillar of salt for looking over her shoulder, why couldn't he answer the prayers to end evil. Either your god is heartless, powerless, both, or does not exist at all.

Prayer achieves all things in God's time.God doesn't ignore any of our prayers. I too am grieved over poverty and disease, war, yet it is a time in which I'm aware that God's plan is being fullfilled and all kind of things of sorrow will yet happen before Jesus will come out of the east and every knee shall bow, and evey tongue confess that he is our Lord. Keep on praying and watching.

I do not believe that prayer achieves anything. Some people pray night after night after night and there life goes on the same way. Some people practically live in the church and by the bible and pray too. No change.

You have a good heart. But, God has His own plan for the world that you and everybody else does not understand. Everything is for a reason. But God does hear your prayers dont be discouraged. Instead of asking that, ask Him to help you to become someone that makes a positive change in the world. Read your bible though, you must understand God. His ways are perfect there are no mistakes. Like I said, everything is inside His eternal plan

I would say that prayer directed at getting God to do something for you is just self important hot air. Prayer that seeks to find the inner strength to get your *** in gear and do what you need to do is at least headed in the right direction.

Wow, i became all waiting to furnish a sarcastic answer like 'yeah it gave something...fake desire' yet now i'm guffawing, spectacular one. Oh and that i think in his 'christian techniques' he figures doing the time will help get the forgiveness he needs. So in a fashion specific, yet he in simple terms needed it in a diverse way fairly than penitentiary.
