Cutting is an addiction as well as a coping mechanism.
What you need to do is pay attention to those feelings that you get when you're about to cut, and stop them. It's not easy to do, but once you learn how, you'll be doing it automatically.
How to stop those feelings are by doing something else you enjoy, or by doing something to get you away from the tools used for cutting. Take a walk, call someone, write down your feelings, play with pets, drink water. Do something that isn't harmful to yourself.
If you need anymore help, please feel free to contact me.

One thing many people don't understand about cutting is that is can be addictive. If it has gotten to that point for you, you need to go to a doctor or go to a counselor or psychiatrist. The first step may be hard but trust me its well worth it. Also any time you need to cut call a friend or call 1-800-DONT-CUT. (Its a real number Google it if you want.)

Hi i am totally in the same position as you and i need to stop it 2! ur not alone, did u know that 1 in 9 people self harm during 1 point in there life.I want to help you as my best friend use to harm but i helped her stop,(it easyer to help others than your self).U may need professional help but the most important part you have already done by admitting that you harm your self and than you need help, most harmers don't want to stop. Thats where we have the advantages. You really need to workout if you don't know already, why you harm your self and look for help with addressing these problems that lead to harming.
I have a CPN, and she is brilliant, try to get 1. She told me to get a shoe box or a bag and put things in there that make you smile or feel gud, then when you want to harm you have to get this box out, go through all the stuff & write down the gud memorys with each object, it may not stop you self harming but it may give you that little extra time in which you can try to carm down and think about wat you r going to do. Please get in touch and let me knw how u doing. gud luck luv. x x x

Cutting is the symptom. Solve the problem
The Courage to Heal Workbook by Laura Davis is a realy good tool box for dealing with the issues behind your cutting
Believe it or not you've already taken your first step to stopping by admitting it's a problem
Hang in there, you will make it!

I'm a self injurer as well. I quit for five months, and I'm really proud of that, but I relapsed (at the moment, I don't mind, because I can finally smile again). Cutting is an addiction. It's a way to survive. It's a habit.
alternatives:
-go for a walk/run.
-write down whats triggering you to cut.
-watch a favorite movie.
-drink something warm. tea, coffee, hot chocolate.
-hold an ice cube in your hand.
-draw on yourself with a red pen/marker.
-talk to a friend.
-put on some soothing music.
-dance.
-scream.
-beat the crap out of your pillow.
-read.
-Myspace is always a good distraction :p
If you aren't ready to go to your parents, or another adult, please go to a friend. A friend can offer you support in quitting. Good luck, love. It's an uphill abttle, but remember, a slip-up is a slip-up, and as with anything, tomorrow is a new day.

If you realize that this is an issue and you want help, then try to contact some sort of support group in your area. If you have an AA, they might know of something or someone. See a psychiatrist as well because I have heard this is a mental thing, and you might need therapy and/or medication. Good luck to you!

make a coping skill bag. when i was at the hospital, a staff there that i really trusted helped me make a copeing skill bag full of little nick nacks to do to help not to cut. here is what i had in mine...
rubber band ( to snap on your wrist )
lotion ( the smell just relaxes you i guess )
bouncy ball ( just for something to do )
gum ( not sure why, but i liked it )
hard clay ( to squeez really hard )
there was more but i forget.
also other things that helped me where squeezing ice in your hand until you can't stand it.
and freeze and orange in the freezer, and when you feel like cutting, just try to cut into that.
bubble baths help me also.
hope that helps.

Hi,
I had a best friend of mine who cut a lot in high school. She was abused as a child and it was her way of feeling something. I went through an eating disorder and we had very similiar feelings. What helped me the most learning to let it go. Cry, scream and shout it out. Talk about all the bad stuff and let it go. It won't haunt you anymore if you let it.
Thinking of you,
Sally

think about it do you really enjoy watch blood drip from your arm
is it worth the chance that you could die
and don't tell people that you stopped if you didn't because that basically makes everything worse
my friend cuts but no one can get her to stop and i swear she is just stupider and crazier than when i met her
and now shes drinking and shes only 13
if you want to live your life to the fullest quit
it will help you and anyone who knows you cut
