Welcome to the USA. I am also guilty of that, our Shopping is mostly done at a distance from home, the Malls are the central market places, and one drives to them. It is impossible to carry ones purchases back if one is walking. and take into consideration that obesity carries with it other diseases as diabetes, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis etc. I try to get my exercises by riding a stationary bike, at home, do water aerobics in the pool and walk in the Mall while I am doing some shopping. The grocery shopping is also done in a large store, there is much walking done in there as well I am not obese, but my weight is within the normal range or at times just below. You can blame it on diseases, and it is difficult to loose the weight. Merry Christmas

I drive everywhere due to no real public transportation and due to the elements of harsh New England winters. During summer months, I'll still drive to my destination, but walk between errands. I think the laziness thing is a factor as are habits of consumers. Think about it, ever watch people drive around looking for the closest parking spot?? Now that my friend is LAZY.

I admit, I have gotten pretty lazy about walking since I've moved to the city. Sometimes the traffic in my area is so congested that at times it's nearly impossible to cross the road on foot. However when I lived in the country I tried to walk everywhere.
More importantly, why are you living in the United States if you hate America and Americans? I've read your other questions and you've done nothing but insult us, yet you choose to live here. Seems odd to me.

We've had a love affair over autos since before the Second World War. When there was rationing during that war, people were given stamps to buy food, etc. Rationing gas was the lowest form of rascality that the govt perpetrated during the war. Someday, we'll wake up and find the pumps empty...

I decided to park my car. and walk the neighborhood. but stopped, because people would all ways say. wheres your car? why are you walking. and they called the law on my every day sometimes twice to three times day.try walking sometimes. you will definitely have something thrown at you. robbed.stopped by the law.its a class thing. don't have a car, your trash. low life. even if your a millionaire that's walking or riding a bike. and the blacks will kill you. Most places in the U.S. are not all that pedestrian-friendly, and we don't generally have good public transportation.
I agree with you. When I was a little kid in Chicago we could walk a few blocks to a grocer or drugstore or get on a streetcar when we needed to go a little further. If we needed to go downtown we could take the "El" (elevated train) to the Loop. Chicago still has fairly decent public transit, but most newer American cities don't, and in many places sidewalks are a thing of the past.

Americans drive everywhere due to the fact that their lives allow little time for leisurely pursuits such as strolling. The driver you saw whom seemed to be making numerous pit stops just a few yards down from one another was, in all probability, attempting to address a laundry-list of errands which needed to be finished in a timely fashion.
I think most Americans would agree that they would enjoy walking in he evening along side the person they love, or sharing in balanced home cooked and nutricious meals, but simply do not have the time or energy to do so.
I work seventy hour weeks myself, save for the moment as I am on holiday, and most of my meals are gleamed from drive-thrus due to the fact I don't have time for anything else, I don't have an exercise program I stick to largely because when I arrive home I feel utterly shagged. Fortunately my occupation is highly physical, so I'm not in terrible shape, but I could certainly be significantly healthier if I rearranged my priorities. I think this is largely true of all Americans.

We walk because gas is subsidized by the government and cheaper, we're lazy, and we live relatively faster paced lives here. I walk to school everyday for about 20 minutes, but I was in the military and I really don't like the general attitude about things in the US anyways, so I'm a little different.

in many places of usa the weather is very cold ,sometimes with snow, sometimes it is drizzling, sometimes very hot as they cannot bear temp.beyond 36/37.if so how can they walk. further they enjoyed fuel susidy and ran their cars cheap.moreover the oher alternate transport like buses, taxis, are not available as in othercountries easily.hence they got addicted to their own cars.but as u said it is really not good to make even small walks resulting in obesity not only elders but in young children.it is better they change for good or seriously engage themselves in swimming. going to gym

Dont know but that is part of why they are the most obese country in the world, and they have one of the lowest fuel prices in the world and pump more s**t into the air than the rest of the world.
