the Mexicans there are paid to treat Americans like kings,,,they don't represent the greater mentality of the commen people,

Americans,,esp, liberals,,will say, oh, I go to Mexico all the time and the people are so warm and friendly and they treat me like a king,,

If any of those tourists lived with the real people in thier shanty towns for an extended period of time,,,they would see that they are not all these magical, ultra holy peoplethat we all should hug and worship with family values coming out of thier ears and noses, they have thier problems like any other demographic,,and in general they harbor angry feelings towards Americans, has anyone here ever REALLY VISITED MEXICO,,like not as a stupid touist,,,but to work as a doctor or something,,please tell me your experience

exactly ... 90% of americans would experience culture shock in the first degree if they got thrown into the middle of a third world country ... i know i did ... and shocking living conditions and poor is the only way to describe it ... i dont blame mexicans one bit for wanting to try for a better life here illegal or not ... and generally from what ive seen in my travels the world over is that poor people are the nicest and most hospitable ..

Remember the old western towns, the ones with the fake fronts that were taller than the rest of the building? I kind of think the whole world is like that, more or less...there's the side you want guests to see, and then there's Uncle Larry, who's been living in that old schoolbus etc. for years, now, who never gets rid of his trash. Every country has their Uncle Larry's, the not-ready-for-prime-time side of life, the 'real' country, if you will, the people that trade in car batteries and deer-skins in lieu of Visa/MC.

There's poverty in america, too, just like anyplace else...no self-respecting politician is going to showcase it, though, not unless they're hyping for handouts from somebody else...and that is definitely part of what we see in the world today, trot out the poor when it's 'gimme' time, the rest of the time they live out back behind the house....not really much of an effective attempt at fighting poverty, I think, not that 'poverty' per se is an enemy, it's more like when you just flat don't have any money, and you sort of learn to do without and you live your life anyway even if you never DID end up with a 'Benz out of it...but, there's some people that don't have fresh water, let alone a car, or a house worth the name, and it just flat sucks to be them, especially in bad weather.

But, I understand that their new president in Mexico is going to be trying to get community leaders to do more to start trying to fix a lot of that, trying to get more people involved in building the economy so that it can expand to care for more of their citizens.
Road-building, home building, schools, hospitals, businesses,
electricity, water, all that good stuff...but, it'll take a long time, nothing gets done overnight, costs money, too, but the more they can get other countries to help, the better off they'll be. I'm for that, because then there'll be less people trying to bolt for the United States to escape poverty. But, you also have to talk about corruption, and what REALLY goes on, because 'foreign aid' ends up more times than not being a condition when poor people in rich countries give money to rich people in poor countries, and that's pretty much the end of the story. But, again, I think their new president seems to have his act together, as always though, time will tell...

I agree. Most people are sheep. Everything is a resort to them. I have worked and traveled in Mexico and Brazil. I have met the blue collar people and lived with them. I will say the people are generous and trustwothry. But the governments and officials are unbelievably corrupt. This corruption drives the culture and pervades everyday life. I have met many people that have dealt with ransoming, bribery and kidnapping. This is in South America folks! Not Iraq! Read the papers. It is unbelievably dangerous in those countrys.

That is why people come to the US. We are fair to citizens. We allow each person to have an opportunity to make a living.

Be careful if you travel to central and south America. It is dangerous.

I live in Mexico and know that the tourism industry makes jobs and provides income for the people. Spanish speakers make jokes about loud arrogant visitors but enjoy the tips they get for good service. Its a game we play. My neighbors aren't crushingly poor, Dads and Moms have work and the kids go to school. Welcome stupid tourists they bring money.

As a nurse; their medical proceedures are primative. The Mexican leaders need to improve conditions for their people. As an American, tend to champion the down trodded, the poor, Mexicos elite should do the same.

You bring out a very excellent point that pro illegals want to ignore. By being pro illegal they are sealing their own fate and that of their children. Poor helpless children who are getting their educations stolen from them because their mommies and daddies want to give to the illegals.

They don't have to go that far, just go to the "Little Mexico" in your Hometown. There you will see those sneaky little criminals in their own element!
