This question is aimed directly towards Texans on probation, but holds significance to anyone believing that abortion is wrong, that it is a personal right to do so, and/or that America is seriously pushing the limits on violating our rights. My husband is on probation is Texas. Just the other day, he was waiting to see his P.O. when he heard her and another P.O. talking. Apparently, that Officer had a woman on his case load who had 8 children and is only 24. She can't hold a steady job because of how frequently she gets pregnant. Their main source of income for support is SSI, but SSI only pays enough to support the family, not pay probation. Now, this P.O. is debating revoking her probation and telling her that if she wants to avoid prison, she has to get an abortion of her current pregnancy and get her "tubes tied" no longer allowing her to have any children. And my hubby's P.O. agreed that it would be the perfect solution! Is this even legal?! Because it is morally disgusting...

To the last guy who answered, I have never been in trouble with the law either, therefore, I do have an opinion.
As for my husband being on probation, he did not actually commit the crimes he was charged with. When he was still a minor, he was one of those little street punks. When he turned 18, he straightened up. His brother and a few of their friends committed some MAJOR vandalism and his brother was scared. My hubby took the fall for his brother. Everyday, I tell him it was admirable, but idiotic.

cprucka- What the hell are you on? I know the cops in my area are fairly crooked, but what is up with you? I know that what the woman is doing is wrong, but how do the cops have that right? Please be understandable next time you answer.

You are concerned about a conversation that your probationer husband claims he overheard in part. I am not attacking you, but don't you think there are some credibility issues with what you asked?
My Dad, who has been legal adviser to both police and parole/probation departments and has been a criminal defense lawyer in Texas, totaling over 30 years, says that there has never been a case in Texas of a woman having her probation or parole revoke for declining to get an abortion or for continuing to have babies.
Furthermore, a probation/parole officer who suggested such a remedy would be terminated from employment.
I think this is an Urban Myth - like your husband reported about a story he heard rather than the actual conversation. Think about it - do you really think two probation officers would have such a discussion in front of a probationer?

You need to see a doctor lady! I have been on probation from texas, i know what kind of scum is on the force. That woman needs to tie her tubes, she is obviously taken advantage of SSI. Wait till the Cops kill your husband, and they will if they think he is a threat! Hell, look at O.J. he is only alive because he is reach. People like you make me sick.

As long as taxpayers are paying to raise the kids she looses rights... I dint think the abortion is right but I do think her tubes should have bean required to be long sense tied or her money taken away.... If their healthy enough to make babies they can work!!!

People shouldn't be having babies if the government is going to have to pay for them. The P.O. is a genius and if your husband has a P.O. then your opinion doesn't count for very much.

what we have here is a failure to communicate. old gal she got the rabbit and likes to breed and drop them little kits like there is no tomorrow. couldn't care who has to clean up the mess. possibly uses drugs and more. but maybe not. maybe she is a devout christian lady who works hard at the church helping other with greater need than herself. and eventually she will raise those children, each of which, will complete college and go on to become pillars of society. the us is not united, it is not a democracy, it is more like the roman empire in the final days. to answer you question: this issue is so pervasive and widespread nobody listens. nobody cares.
