This question is aimed directly towards Texans on probation, but holds significance to anyone believing that abortion is wrong, that it is a personal right to do so, and/or that America is seriously pushing the limits on violating our rights. My husband is on probation is Texas. Just the other day, he was waiting to see his P.O. when he heard her and another P.O. talking. Apparently, that Officer had a woman on his case load who had 8 children and is only 24. She can't hold a steady job because of how frequently she gets pregnant. Their main source of income for support is SSI, but SSI only pays enough to support the family, not pay probation. Now, this P.O. is debating revoking her probation and telling her that if she wants to avoid prison, she has to get an abortion of her current pregnancy and get her "tubes tied" no longer allowing her to have any children. And my hubby's P.O. agreed that it would be the perfect solution! Is this even legal?! Because it is morally disgusting...

Please, this is not about the specific woman. As horrible as she may be, she is only and example. I am writing about the sickening BS that our government now claims they can impose.

When you are on probation, you have to pay a certain amount of money in fees for however long you are on probation. If the action that got you on probation involves to destruction and repayment of damaged property, your probation will also make you pay back the amount ordered by the judge.

She has not been to prison. Probation is an option INSTEAD of prison. Parole results when you are let out early from a prison sentence.

I don't believe that your husband heard that alleged conversation at all. If you insist in sticking up for this nonsensical story, you are deluding yourself.

I'll bet your husband also told you he really didn't do whatever he is accused of. Or, that it really was someone else's fault. And I bet you fell for that nonsense also.

You are being played as a fool by your husband. Sooner or later you will discover this on your own.

And, no Texas Probation Officer would suggest forced abortion or forced tubal ligation - either of those actions would be a crime under the Texas Criminal Code and to even threaten a probationer with such action would be criminal activity, plus grounds for instant termination.

You have been "had." It's time to wake up and smell the coffee.

Good luck to you.

You know when the state is paying for these kids they have to do something. I don't think abortion is the answer. Adoption and tubes tied are good. There is no way a 24 yr. old can physically take care of 9 children. Maybe they should invest her in getting birth control, and IUD.
Maybe they should stop giving her so much gov't assistance that might help also. This lady will never work and if she does we pay for her daycare bill which will be way more than this lady will ever make.

this is a difficult one.

firstly as this woman is on probation and obviously has been in prision. she cannot be caring for her children at all!
my view on this is the state had a duty to protect children that are at risk and to make sure they are provided with all they need, love , support, a home etc. at 24 possibly going/having been in prison she cannot be providing her children with these things. with her expected baby it will also be in this situation.
i would agree in this situation that the woman should CONSIDER an abortion and also using a more permanent method of birth control. but they cannot force her to have the abortion at all.

if i was her p.o . i would force her to go to a sexual helth course and learn bout birth control and how at risk she is at having so any children. ( i know if you have had a ceseran 3+ times you automatically get your 'tubes tied' but that is based on risk to the mother ( would the next pregnancy kill her, my aunt had it done after 3 c-sections)

i guess it could be made part of her bail agreement that she gets a job and has to stick to it and have to avoid getting pregnant. but there is nothing that can really be done is there?

What do you mean: "Pay Probation"?

If you don't mind answering my question.

Also, yes it is morally repugnant. I don't know if it is legal, but I do know not getting pregnant is sometimes a condition of parole imposed by a judge. Though I believe if you violate it you just go back to jail they can not force an abortion.

You ought to see a surgeon woman! I had been on probation from texas, i do know what style of scum is at the drive. That lady demands to tie her tubes, she is surely taken skills of SSI. Wait until the Cops kill your husband, and they're going to in the event that they feel he's a chance! Hell, seem at O.J. he's simplest alive given that he's succeed in. People like you're making me unwell.

I highly doubt that it's legal, and you're absolutely right that it is morally disgusting. I'm pro-choice to a point, but requiring her to have an abortion, and have her tubes tied??? That is completely unethical. There are better solutions. Encouraging her to consider adoption if she becomes pregnant again, or helping her find a flexible job would be much better solutions. This is absolutely revolting.

Well, I have heard there are cases where if a woman can't keep her legs closed, gets involved in criminal activity and can't take care of the kids that she has that they are able to take the kids away and/or get her to terminate and get tubes tied.

So yeah I believe it is legal. And I think if the person did it once or twice that yeah it would be morally wrong.
but if the person can't even take care of the kids they have, is living off of the system and continues to pop out wee ones. Yeah they should be "fixed".

I completely agree with the tubes tied, but not a forced abortion. Some "parents" make me sick.
