You see on many sites where they sell things for alters and other magical workings I see these "Amulets" now there amulets are said to help with things like increasing your bond with animals keeping evil away and controlling spirits. I can't really see how you would know if that were true or not.

So what do you think about them?

Try reading some books about what amulets and talisman are about. As tools, they are helpful and do serve a purpose.

Recommended is "Amulets: Sacred Charms of Power and Protection" by Sheila Paine - a good place to start.

And it's altar - our space for Deity, not alter - to change something."

Like most things put on the altar they are there for a propose.
Your altar candle, liberation dish, oil, salt, water. Incense burner
Just to name the standards.

Of course you could have other added bits, your deities which could be as symbolic as fruit or nuts from a tree, candles, statues .
Again it is personal as to what you use.. because this is what is going to help you focus.
“Focus your intent.”

You can have pentagrams amulets all sorts of things around you. Most of the time you are giving them power, charging them within your circle.
Of course the pentagram is ancient pagan symbol.
You dont have to use amulets or tailsmans.
Its more of a storage of energy, that you have charged it with.

So if you feel you need to buy your talisman or amulet.
Empower it with your own energy.
But dont buy one for the sake of having one.or because someone told you .. you need one.. Thats just hogwash.

I wouldn't want a stranger to choose the object and symbols and then charge the item for me. Why would I want that? How can they possibly know what stones I work with best and what symbols are important to me? How can they possibly charge the item with exactly the intent that I want? If they could do this effectively, think about the many hands that the item would pass through before it gets to you---from the manufacturers to the store clerks to other customers... If you take it home and purify it, the charge would be gone anyway.

I have always made my own. Only I know how I interact with various stones and symbols. I want my energy infused in it with my specific intentions, I want to make if of a material that has person meaning to me using symbols that are specific and personal to me.

Well, you kind of have to buy things like that in person. It's hard to explain...you kind of feel it. If the amulet really is powerful, you'll know.

I would agree with Fallen - if you're buying something for magical work, IMHO you're better off being able to touch and feel and see an item in person to see if you connect with it.

It's hard to explain if you've never felt the difference when you find the "right" item, but once you *have* felt it, you'll know...

In Wicca, many symbols are used as keys to focus energy, If you use the symbol or amulet in that way, then you will be successful.

I don't see why they wouldn't work. But I prefer to make my own amulets and talismans.

Actually, you don't "need" anything on your altar. You don't even "need" and altar. Only you, your energy, and your god/dess.

Don't fall for it. If you know anything about magick, you'll know that the items don't matter. They mean nothing at all.

Don't buy, make your own. It'll be more personalized and meaningful to you....and every bit as silly and worthless. Better yet make lots of silly trinkets and sell them to people as foolish as yourself.
