if you had it for a few years, it may not close and it would definitely be noticable.

I'm a registered nurse, and I work in a university clinic. We treat hundreds of students. About a week ago, this girl came in, and had had her lip pierced, and it had gotten infected. It was so horrible, that her lower jaw was swollen, her lower gum line was swollen with pus pockets, and she obviously had trouble speaking. She'd removed the piercing, and we had to send her to the hospital, where she was admitted and had to have IV antibiotics. I'm telling you this not to dissuade you from doing it, but only giving you a scenario of how bad something like a piercing (especially in the mouth where there's so much bacteria) can go so wrong. She was almost "septic" or had blood poisoning, and could have died.

Make sure you REALLY want that piercing, because it's not an area of the body to pierce and think lightly of. I have been told that the hole doesn't close. But, I wouldn't imagine the scar would be that noticeable. Good luck!

I have mine done and have had it for about 6 months. I seem to heal very fast and I took it out for a few hours the other day and it closed up, I had to break through the hole and it hurt. If you don't want anyone to see it, get a clear retainer, they are about $5. As for the hole, its as big as the gage you put in. At 16g, its a pretty small hole, but if you have thin lips it will be noticeable. Infection is always a concern. I had eye brow and conch piercings that got infected, the eye brow eventually rejected and had to be taken out. Just keep it clean and you shouldn't have any problems with infection or healing.

The hole WOULD eventually close [I don't know how long it would take], but I think it'll definitely leave a scar.

Ha, I never thought about that, and I have my lip pierced.

the hole may or may not close. and no there wouldnt be a noticeable mark. maybe a VERY SMALL scar if it did close up. but a co worker at work has her lip pierced, she has to take it out for the job, same with another co-worker too, and you woulndt be able to tell that they had their lips pierced from looking at them.

i have plenty of friends that used to have their lips pierced and the mark isnt even noticible unless you look for it, and its ony as big as the piercing was so i'd suggest a 16 ga. && yes, the hole would close

yes, the whole will eventually close. in fact, lip piercings heal very quickly because the mouth has one of the fastest healing times of anywhere in our body.

it does leave a mark, although it's not very big. it just looks like a small dot. people do not notice my lip ring mark unless i point it out to them.

It'll close up again eventually. So long as you get a small peircing and dont stretch it, it will not leave hardly, if any scar at all.
