I just stopped taking it, I didn't have enough money to taper off. I was taking 20mg but I feel like my brain is being zapped or something. Its hard to explain. Im scared this is dangerous to my health or if it will go away.

Hi,
I used to. It can be dangerous to not taper off the medication. You are going through withdrawal right now. I'm sorry. It really sucks.

You should call your doctor and see if he can give you any samples to help you wean from it without experiencing such severe withdrawal. Ask if he can get some. He should do his best to help as going off the med so quickly could cause headaches, irregular heartbeats, seizure, etc. I don't want to scare you but it is very important that you see if you can get some help with this. I have been through withdrawal and it is the most horrible feeling...If that is impossible you may need to go to your local ER and tell them you are experiencing withdrawal from Lexapro. They should definitely give you more. Your doctor is a better choice, though, as he/she will take you through the steps of tapering.

It's a scary place to be, especially because most people don't realize how easy it is to get dependent on something prescribed. It's a chemical reaction that should be taken care of as soon as possible. It is possible this will simply go away and you'll have no lasting side effects but I wouldn't take the chance. Your doctor may understand if you cannot pay for a visit and let you come in to pick up some samples. I went off of Klonopin years ago without tapering. I have had migraine headaches every day since.

Good luck. There should be a clinician on call if your doctor is not in. He can look up your chart and most likely help you.

Not a good idea to suddenly stop taking anti-depressants. You may experience heady Flu-like symptoms. And of course you don't want to become depressed. See a doctor and ask if he/she has any free samples.

when you take drugs your body needs that drug to funtion, but when you stop doing it, you get sick for a couple of days that is withdrawl. you will be sick for a couple of days, but you will get better soon because your body will get used to it later on.
