"Dad, I've raised the money to pay for a car and one year of insurance up front" would be a convincing opener for me.

first off he shouldn't get you a car if you are old enough to drive you can buy one your self. But you can ask him What will it take for you to help me get a car. did you notice I did not say give me. if you contribute at least part of the funds you have a better idea of owner ship and for some thing that big you need that knowledge

It depends on if you NEED a car, or if you just want a car. If you need it, make a list of all the reasons and talk to him about. Make a deal, and talk respectfully. If you just want it, try and make a deal and find out when he got a car and when you should get one.

There is nothing you can say. You need to save your own money for the car and insurance.

If your dad sees that your trying to save money and your not bugging him about it he may just help you get one or maybe even pay for it himself.
