I think the brand will survive, but Ford will likely have to merge with other international auto makers to survive. Much of the auto industry mergers have been U.S.-European, but possibly it's time for a merger across the Pacific.

It may be time for a merger between someone like Ford and the fledgling Chinese auto industry, for example. I don't see Japanese or Korean manufacturers as being ripe for merger, but Ford has a good handle on technology, and the Chinese auto industry might well benefit from some of what Ford could offer.

Also, there is the possibility of an industry and market in Vietnam, now opening up to more trade with the U.S.

I think much of the key to survival of American products is the development of markets, especially overseas. American products such as major appliances still market pretty well internationally, and so can cars and trucks.

I'm afraid that Ford in its current form, has little to keep it alive on its own.

There is yet another consideration, and that is the difficult relationship between American industry and labor. I believe we must improve that relationship, which should be more like a partnership, if American industries and jobs are to survive. The reason Japanese auto makers don't have problems like these are because labor and management understand each needs the other to survive.

No American employer should ever want to put its employees out on the street without a job and no American employee should ever want to see his employer put out of business. Until we reach the industrial maturity where those attitudes prevail we will have trouble far beyond what either the employers or employees deserve.

Ford may be doing bad on the books but they have too much of a global impact to just go under! They will probably just restructure the company as a whole and redesign there line-up to get the costumers back it will take some time but they`ll be back in the running! This is the FORD company we are talking about here! They just don`t quit.

Yes Ford is going bankrupt, but they will not go out of business. They will just restructure the Corporation and get more financing, change a few officers on the Board of Trustee's etc. GM and Chrysler have done it many times. What Ford really needs to do(just like GM needs to do) is get a clue as too what their customer base really wants and build a reliable product.

What Ford really needs is Lee Iacoca. He bailed out Chrysler. Maybe America needs Lee Iacoca for president to bail our nation from going bankrupt.

NO, "they're" not. All car makers have these problems from time to time.

It wasn't that long ago that Nissan was about to go belly up, and they turned it around, so don't count Ford out yet.

All US automakers are in big trouble. They rely on gimmicky marketing tecniques rather than on superior engineering and environmentally conscious cars. They've been sleazy too long and now they're paying for it. Toyota's the best car company in the world right now and all the other Japanese car makers are not far behind.
