yes - she has had cpr and completed a babysitting course. This is her first babysitting job. She has been a mother's helper but never on her own.

a 13-14 year olds I'd pay $3-5, 15 year olds = $7 an hour , and 16+ year olds $7.50-9..

This also depends on if the babysitter has had first aid and cpr training, if she has, then I try to up the price by $0.50. And depending on her expereince as a sitter.

I pay depending on what I'm doing. If i'm going out to have fun I pay about $10.00 an hour for 3 kids 5and under. If I'm working I pay about $5.00 an hour, but that's only because I've known my babysitter since she was in diapers and she doesn't like to charge me. I would definitely set a rate. You can make your rate very from person - person, or different situations. When someone asks you to babysit if they don't ask you your pay-rate tell them I've decided on a pay-rate. Explain to them why. I wouldn't charge more for the holidays. Most people will tip you during the holidays if you've done a good job. You actually don't have to clean up anything that was messed up before you got there unless you're asked. Just clean up after you and the kids while your there. In a babysitter I look for someone who my kids will get along with, that also can take charge. I don't want a pushover, but I don't want a meanie. Experience is great! Basic First Aid is also a must.

Well i would say $6 an hour because the child is 8 years old, which probably means he or she is pretty independent and the 14 year old would probably get along well since they are pretty close in age. When i used to babysit the parents would just give me $20 at the end of the night even if it was a really long night or short. I was happy with it.

At least minimum wage. The age of the sitter or the child shouldn't be a factor. If you value the skills of this young teen and want her to come back in the future and babysit again, show her/him how much you value their dedication to the art of babysitting.

so much depends on:
geography - NYC would pay more than suburban Albany, NY
experience - prior babysitting/ CPR training/ certified
the child/children;
how old and how many
behavioral issues
time - day, afternoon, evening, or late into the night
duration - will sitter need to cook, put kids to bed, change them

I don't think under 14's should babysit, and as for payment, that should depend on time of day, length of babysitting etc. I would think the equivalent of £3 per hour should be ok

I would say 6.50 to 8.00 dollars an hour. I know you mentioned only one kid, but the sitter still gives up her time.
