To hear things! Dogs rely a great deal on sound- that's why the flesh of their ear lobes are so tender and thin- it's more sensitive to sound.

Because every animal on earth originates from one animal, and that animal must have had ears to hear, so now every animal has ears even if you cant see them and even if theyre not used for hearing
