Let me start by saying it really irritates me when members of one denomination or of a separate religion take things out of context or twist them around in regards to another religion or denomination. Having said that, yes, the St Joseph's Edition of The Bible does have some slight differences. A few more books to be exact. The Protestant edition of The Bible has 66 books, 39 in the old testament, 27 in the new. The Catholic edition has 73 books in it, 46 in the old testament and 27 in the new. The books the Catholic edition has which the Protestant edition does not are as follows: The Books of Tobit, Judith, First Book of Maccabees and Second Book of Maccabees. These books are considered the historical books and deal with the history of the Nation of Israel and specifically their history after the exodus from egypt and the wandering years in the wilderness. They also explain how they came to be where they are and also how they came to be governed by kings. The next grouping is commonly referred to as the Wisdom Books. There are two wisdom books which the Protestant edition does not have. They are The Book of Wisdom and The Book of Sirach (Ecclesiasticus). This is not to be confused with Ecclesiastes - which, by the way, only has 12 chapters in both the Catholic and Protestant editions. Lastly, we come to the prophetic books. The one book here contained in the Catholic edition, but not the Protestant is The Book of Baruch.
The book of Sirach (Ecclesiasticus) goes all the way up to 51 chapters and is very similar to Proverbs with instruction on living and the paths to wisdom and what is pleasing to God. It gives instructions on how wives may be a blessing to their husbands and husbands a Godly leader to their wives, how children may honor God by honoring their parents, how parents may receive God's blessing by parenting in a Godly fashion and how to treat servants, the poor, choose associates, choose friends, etc. I have looked and looked and I can not find anywhere in my Catholic edition Bible that it says daughters are bad or evil or any other negative thing. What I do find is the Lord saying, ".....and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me." says the Lord Almighty (2 Cor. 6:18). How can having daughters be a bad thing if God Himself promises we are his children?
At any rate, I am a Catholic and I love being a Catholic denomination of Christian. I too, have daughters. I only have daughters. They are all adopted. For 18 years I prayed for children, specifically, for just one daughter please God if it is Your will that I have a child at all please please please God may I be blessed with a daughter. If it is not your will, please take the desire to be a mother from my heart. Every day for 18 years I prayed this. I was diagnosed with cancer as a teenager and survived, but lost my ability to conceive and bear children. He heard my prayers and in His time blessed my socks off with a Godly husband and beautiful Godly daughters.
I hope this answers your question.
Sincerely,
Rachel S.

The Ecclesiastes has only 12 Chapters. Most english translations of the Bible was taken from the Hebrew Text, where as the Catholics Bible was translated from various others. That's why words like repentance was changed to pentance, for an example.

The Catholic Bible book of Ecclesiastes also has 12 chapters: http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/bible/#ecclesiastes
The New Testament canon of the Catholic Bible and the Protestant Bible are the same with 27 Books.
The difference in the Old Testaments actually goes back to the time before and during Christ’s life. At this time, there was no official Jewish canon of scripture.
The Jews in Egypt translated their choices of the Hebrew Scriptures into Greek in the second century before Christ. This translation of 46 books, called the Septuagint, had wide use in the Roman world because most Jews lived far from Palestine in Greek cities. Many of these Jews spoke only Greek.
The early Christian Church was born into this world. The Church, with its bilingual Jews and more and more Greek-speaking Gentiles, used the books of the Septuagint as its Bible. Remember the early Christians were just writing the documents what would become the New Testament.
After the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem, with increasing persecution from the Romans and competition from the fledgling Christian Church, the Jewish leaders came together and declared its official canon of Scripture, eliminating seven books from the Septuagint.
The books removed were Tobit, Judith, 1 Maccabees, 2 Maccabees, Wisdom (of Solomon), Sirach, and Baruch. Parts of existing books were also removed including Psalm 151 (from Psalms), parts of the Book of Esther, Susanna (from Daniel as chapter 13), and Bel and the Dragon (from Daniel as chapter 14).
The Christian Church did not follow suit but kept all the books in the Septuagint. 46 + 27 = 73 Books total.
1500 years later, Protestants decided to change its Old Testament from the Catholic canon to the Jewish canon. The books they dropped are sometimes called the Apocrypha.
Here is a Catholic Bible website: http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/bible/
With love in Christ.

Well Catholic scripture has 72 books in the Bible,Protestants have 69. The Scripture Catholic use for the Sunday readings[the Lectionary] are taken from the New American Bible. The Catholic Bible book of ECCLESIASTES has 12 chapters. As for your Muslim friend, you best ask him for the references regarding" bad daughters". Not aware of such references in the Catholic Bible.[ As for the King James--no never part of the Catholic tradition--developed by King Henry and his followers]

It is not a contemporary Catholic belief that having daughters is bad, but I'm not sure whether or not there is a part of the Bible which says so. I do not know if Ecclesiastes is longer in the Catholic Bible than in some others, but the verses are in Catholic bibles are sometimes numbered differently than those in non-Catholic Bibles. This may or may not result in a shorter number of chapters.

This is the last verse of Ecclesiastes in the Catholic Bible.
12:14. And all things that are done, God will bring into judgment for every error, whether it be good or evil.
The person must have been referring to the book of Ecclesiasticus which contains 51 chapters.

Firstly the bible had been existing more than 2000 years there might be some mistaken took place in publishment and translation. secondly the bible was written by Moses/Aron who is a human emotion and wrote a book went back to the creation of world. Since ST.Paul had been detroyed some of the new testimont which was no good to Christian. Some of the Chapters were missing and destroyed. Nowaday, most of the people said their bible is the completed one or the original, are bullshit. we are reading the bible is to go into it and understand it why it going this way, what we need to do, what we need to stop. Who is the original ? Why border?

The Catholic bible is not the King James version. The KJ bible was rewritten for and by Protestants. The Catholic bible does differ in many significant ways from the KJ version; e.g. in the Catholic bible Revelations is called Apocalypse (at least it was in the one I had when I was a kid). As far as I can see, given the book was rewritten for different versions of Christianity, it can hardly be considered "true" or "real" by any of the various and sundry versions of the faith.
Besides that, I wouldn't take a Muslim's word for ANYTHING regarding Christianity, or just about anything else, for that matter. Considering the Islamic attitude toward women, you should ignore the fool.

The protestants took books OUT of the Bibles and then accussed them after they set up their religions claimed that Catholics ADDED books, but the Catholic Bible, has always been the same. It is the same as the thousands of ancient copies all over the world. It is statistically inconcievable that it has actually been changed.
And no, daughters aren't bad. Although women where to wait twice as long "in mourning" after giving birth to a girl. I'm not certain about the reason for that is for. The reason for the caution appears to be softness of the uterus after birth, which can lead to infection. Anyway, have a nice day!

You may have misread it or have been misled.
The Book of Ecclesiastes is only up to Chapter 12 in BOTH the Douay-Rheims [similar to the Catholic Bible] and the Authorized King James Version [Protestant]...
Peace be with you.
