I buy them green so that I don't get them all bruised from people squeezing them but then, they don't seem to ripen well outside nor in the refrigerator.

I have ripen Avocados when I buy them green and I store them in a brown bag on top of the refrigerator, or a plastic bag, the type of bag the store provides for their customers, when they are buying fruit or vegetables. But, I might add, when placed in the plastic bag check them periodically because they ripen very fast, when placed on top of the refrigerator.

The bags have it! Oh, yes brown paper bag. Had an avocado tree in my back yard years ago. The neighborhood kids would steal them off the tree if they were ripe. So we'd pick them early and ripen them ourselves.

Put them in a brown paper bag and store in a cool, dry place. You want to keep it away from the oven and the microwave, but don't put it in the fridge because that will ruin your avocado. A cabinet is a good place to put it.

This also works for bananas.

Store them in a brown paper bag. That will help them to ripen in a day or so.

it is a secret. but i share it with you for 10 points. give it if it works for you too. yes, brown bag OK, but you have to put the brown bag while the avocados are inside -- on top of the refrigerator (not inside the refrigerator) why? because it is kind of warm on top of the refrigerator. feel it put your hand on.
now you know -- hope it helps.
ps. depending on how ripe you want them and you buy them -- check best every day, until you become an expert yourself.
now...time to give me the 'best' points.
