WWI and WWII are fairly straightforward, b/c there were declarations at the beginning and peace treaties at the end.

WWI: 1914-1918
WWII: 1939-1945

Korea is a complicated case. Conflict is generally agreed to have started in 1950, and a cease-fire was agreed to in 1953. But, technically the war has not ended, even to this day. That's why North and South Korea are separate, that's why there's a demilitarized zone.

Vietnam is again complex. Conflict started with a civil war in 1959, splitting the country. The United States left in 1973, and North Vietnam eventually overtook control in 1975

You have some good answers here. You might want to look at some of the other U.S. military actions, such as the Philippines after the Spanish-American War, and many of the interventions that get grouped under the derogatory heading of "Banana Wars," for better comparisons on America's experience in counter-insurgency operations. A decade in the Dominican Republic, two in Haiti, etc.
