The contour has a very high fan activation temperature. The easiest way to see if your fan works is to turn the A/C on. The fan should come on immediately. If you live in a colder climate, your Fan may never come on during the winter. From what i've seen, the fan should turn on low around the "L" in the "normal" of the coolant gauge on your dash. So if your car isnt overheating you have really nothing to worry about, especially at this time of year.

If you have a/c turn it own and see if it comes on.
It you have a/c and it doesn't turn on move the wires near the fan, it may by the fan or the large resistor connected to it.
If you don't have a/c or it doesn't work the fan won't come on until the guage is right on the red, hot mark.

Component Affected ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
# Vehicles Affected 262559
Defect VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: 1995 PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE 2.0L AND 2.5L ENGINES, AND 1996 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 2.5L ENGINES. Consequence OVERHEATING OF THE COOLING FAN MOTOR DUE TO EXCESSIVE CURRENT CAN RESULT IN SMOKE AND ODORS FROM BEARING GREASE, INSULATION AND OTHER INTERNAL MOTOR COMPONENTS. IF ELECTRICAL CURRENT CONTINUES TO BE APPLIED TO THE MOTOR, INTERNAL MOTOR COMPONENTS COULD IGNITE POSSIBLY IGNITING OTHER ENGINE COMPARTMENT COMPONENTS.

the fan has a switch also that regulates when it turns on and off, change it and you should be in business again unless the fan motor is shot.
